Never finished Elden Ring, DLC still worth it?
I put some hours into Elden Ring and really enjoyed it, but the formula became very predictable, i became disorientated in the world after frequent breaks and in the end had zero motivation catching up where i left.

I still have some love for the series, not sure if the DLC is worth it for me though, just wanted to ask if anybody here is in a similar situation.

Just one specific question, i could've researched it beforehand but i want to avoid any kind of visual spoilers, is the DLC its own isolated area?

Thanks

Yes. According to Miyazaki, pretty much everything is separate from the base game, including story elements and some mechanics.

The DLC will be its own self-contained area.

But honestly, if you didn't enjoy the base game, it's likely you won't enjoy the DLC either, as it's going to be more of the same.

I'd advise finishing the base game before you even consider throwing money at quite an expensive DLC.
The DLC is basically after you've finished the game.
That's technically not true because you can access it before killing the last boss, but my point is that you need to kill a late endgame boss to access it.

Tbh I suggest you try and finish the game and then after you've finished everything consider the DLC.
Personally I am unsure if I want to buy it on release or not, I did another playthrough to get ready for it and it kinda reminded me of how much I dislike the actual combat of Elden Ring.
The combat just feels very outdated and clunky, and the boss design is kinda awful and feels like they're designed for Sekiro's combat not Souls.

I've beaten all of the bosses many times without summons or overpowered ashes etc it's not a git gud issue like some will come out of the woodworks to claim...
The boss design is just very annoying and tedious, it doesn't feel like a back and forth like in the old games and what the combat was originally designed for it feels like you're just waiting and waiting to get a hit or two in ( sometimes you can't even get two ) and then back to waiting and bosses have too many gigantic AoE attacks, chain combos and delayed attacks etc...

I am not saying people can't disagree and legit enjoy the boss design and combat, all I am saying is basically that don't feel as if you '' have to '' enjoy it just because the game is popular.
Try and finish the game but if you don't enjoy it then you don't enjoy it don't feel like you have to push yourself into enjoying it if you don't.

That's kinda where I am at at least, I think Imma wait and see if they've actually resolved things and listened to some of the negative feedback or if they've just doubled down on the jank and frustrating stuff in the DLC.
If it's the latter I'll prob buy it at a later date because I still want to explore the world but I won't buy it early.

Very weird question. If you couldn't even be bothered to finish the base game, what makes you think you'll like the expansion? It's literally more of the same.

Reminds me when ER first launched and some of my friends (who never played a Souls game before and generally dislike challenging games) bought it because of the hype. They stopped playing it a week later because it was too hard and they hated it. FOMO is a helluva drug, I guess.

if you didn't even like it enough to finish it you should probably just buy another game with that money

"I didn't like the game, should I get more of it?"

Well golly I just don't know, what a tough question.

my advice is later try to get back to the game, if you like it, finish it, if you still want more then get the dlc, it maybe on discount by then too

The base game itself is worth it, and you couldn't even give it focus. What makes you think the DLC will somehow garner greater attention from you?

I think if the base game couldn't keep you, then it's hopeless (and senseless) to spring for the DLC.

If you didn't like Elden Ring (and as you've not finished it you clearly didn't) then i wouldn't buy it.
