Expecting passworded players to be better players than non-passworded could be valid, but that wasn't your point no?
The group passwords and multiplayer password are individual mechanics
Multiplayer passwords lock you into that group playing with the same password
Group passwords highlight multiplayer mechanics when someone in the group made them, messages and bloodstains mostly.
It also comes with a mechanic where someone killing a Shardbearer causes (sigh) golden rain that increases your rune droprate
But they will not affect matchmaking themselves.
Uh dude they do affect matchmaking...
Group passwords make it so you can see that group's summon signs better. they have a circle around them. highlighting that they're special compared to normal summons.

yeah see passwords are great for making sure you're in a community of likeminded players. even then, there are no guarantees that someone won't try to use you as a meatshield bc they're scared of getting close.
