Tachi confirmed!!!

The DLC also adds new weapons, magic, and ashes of war. This includes not just new weapons for existing weapon types, but also eight entirely new weapon types. On the simpler side are the Tachi, which is a larger katana, and swords which are held backwards, and on the side of more unique things are a melee weapon that allows the player to fight like a monk, the “Dueling Shield” which allows the player to attack and defend at the same time, and throwing knives which have all of the player’s attacks turn into thrown projectiles. He says that this should make the DLC feel refreshing even to players who have already tried out all of the weapon types in the main game.
Wonder how it would be different than the Washing pole.

I assume a tachi would be more curved and to be used 2handed-natively.

If it's held backwards.. probably a lot of spinning tech.

Maybe something akin to curved swords?

No, these are different, the tachi is mentioned AND the swords are held backwards.

Tachi is basically an older form of katana but more curved and longer. I don't think they can be used backwards.

throwing knives which have all of the player’s attacks turn into thrown projectiles.

I love this idea, so instead of having a consumable it's an actual weapon that just produces infinite thrown attacks. I'm imagining some kind of ghost/magic knife with a unique skill on top of the the infinite phantom projectiles.

We'll see if they end up with the bow treatment. Hopefully not though.

Isn't the Nagakiba already an odachi?

Or do you think it's just a long katana and not thick enough?
LuckyCheshire Mar 19, 2024 @ 7:33pm
I'm still hoping for a schiavona personally. Maybe a khopesh.
REhorror Mar 19, 2024 @ 7:41pm
I am hoping for some more chinese weapons myself, I need dao and Guan dao/halberd.

I feel the distinction of the Tachi being longer than a Katana is moot when they're pretty loose on what the length of a Katana is to begin with.

It could be because some of the katana in ER are more like weapons based on the katana shape than actual katana following japanese standards.

Sorta, I mean more of the style of the one with a longer hilt that is about 1/3rd the length of the blade itself.

Oh these are weapon types! Not just weapons.

Kino inbound.

I know what you mean, the longer hilt is meant to be used 2‐handed natively. The new tachi swords might fit that role, I hope they are like greatswords to normal sword/katana.
