bolt of gransax Q
If I am making a high faith incantation casting build is the bolt of gransax worth looking into? I see it doesnt scale with faith even though I thought it would make sense that it did. does the ash of war on the weapon not scale up then? since there is no faith scaling? or does the ash of war scale with strength or dex?

In Elden Ring, lightning on weapons has Dex scaling instead of faith.

No, Bolt is a Dex weapon that requires 40 Dex.
There are no Lightning Weapons that scale off of Faith in ER.
Your only option is Lighting Buffing a Weapon.

ErdSteel Dagger, Treespear, Great Club, Troll's Hammer are the only Buffable weapons whit some form of Faith scaling. None have innate Lighting.

Lightning Weapons scale with Dex.
There are plenty of faith scaling weapons but you would need to invest quite a few points into Str/Dex to wield them so I would stick to pure caster until you can get to RL ~170+ otherwise you'll spread your stats too thin to do any real damage.
Examples:
Marika's Hammer
Ordovis' Greatsword
Sacred Relic Sword
Blasphemous Blade
Inseparable Sword
Etc, etc

I was just under impression that the str/dex on these listed weapons and any faith scaling ones did normal damage on light the regular light or heavy attacks and then the faith scaling came into play when doing the ash of war of the weapon?

Yes, that is correct, your physical damage will scale off str/dex but any elemental damage will scale off faith. If you want to max damage on both then you can go Str/Faith, two hand the weapon, and put 52pts into Str & 80pts into Faith, probably RL200+. Otherwise you can put like 30pts into Faith and dump the rest into Str or Dex, you'll still do very good Ash of War damage if you're buffing with Incants and an elemental Flask tear, could probably make this work at RL150.

Faith scaling, not unlike Int scaling, can be very finicky .
Marika's Hammer, for example, has a WS that scales off every stat it uses. But
Cleanrot Spear, WS scales only to Faith, despite having lower Faith scaling then the Physical ones.

If it's a Ash of War, count on it using it's original infusion stat.
Uniques WS should always be treated on a per weapon basis.
