Best Greatsword?

Hi, i've been using The Greatsword on my recent playthrough, but i'm wondering if there are better big swords in the game? I was thinking of switching it with Radhan swords but i don't know which is better. What sword are/were you using?

It depends on your build and RL. Also keep in mind bosses are resistant to different damage or status effects. My favourite overall is Blasphemous Blade. It has insane damage, good range/reach, replenishes HP, and works against most enemies. You can swap it with Sacred Relic Sword for fire immunes.

1st- off, your not talking about Great Swords but Colossal Great Swords.

2nd- From a Pure DMG Stand point for any & all Weapons Weight = More DMG

And since the GUGs is the Heaviest Great Sword, Tied only whit the Ruins Great Sword, your mostly at the Top already.

Radanns: is a double weapon, so if you want to Dual CGS & like shouting, it will do this better.

Ruins Great Sword: Being a SAD weapon since int barely does anything for it will peak in power earlier then GUGs. But your not getting anything more out of it afterwards.

Royal Great Sword: has more Int & a unique WS, but it's lighter so lose out eventually.

Maliketh's Greatword: Has Faith scaling, HP reduce & HP Burn on WS. Deals Holy, not good for most Late Game Boss.

Godslayer's Greatsword: Faith scaling, Black Fire WS whit HP Burn. DMG is lower but moveset is slightly faster. If you want more DPS then Big numbers, this guy is for you.

More wight is more damage, but also slower moveset. That's why people tend to use heavy weapons for jump STR builds to one shoot bosses. Generally slow weapons will also take away time to avoid enemy attacks, and a lot of enemies, especially bosses will not care about poise damage and will just attack through your attack. GS is a borderline, but I wouldn't recommend fighting those against fast enemies, unless they are weak to poise damage. By the way I am not arguing with you, you did say "from a pure DMG stand point", so I just wanted to add that's all.

most people say dark moon greatsword with a hybrid build

my main character has moonveil with dex and intelligence for the weapon art

my alt has prelate's inferno crozier with strength for the stagger

so i dont personally use greatswords

Blasphemous Blade is great.

So I mean it's great as a weapon and as a great sword. Two in one, so to speak . Vampiric HP sucking is an invaluable power in the overall package and it's finally outside the holy faith damage fuss of most of the weapons mentioned here.

In ER, the most and best repelled damage type is through resistance and immunization. And doesn't charge as much as e.g. the darkmoon greatsword with a whopping 38 int.

Death Poker is also a really interesting alternative with its frost damage. Frost, contrary to holy nonsense, is not ignored by any boss, not even by mobs. Maximum resistance for some enemies is 20%. Normally it is 0% or -10/20%. Immunization only exists with frostbite, not with frost itself. And that is also very rare.

Ordovis' Greatsword is really underrated, and one of my favorite weapons overall.

Maybe it is like this because the fight to get it is inanely annoying and many people don´t even bother with this bs. I did it once and I have no desire to do it again no matter the reward. It´s just not fun.

What is so annoying about it? Use a tanky ashe like Engval to distract one Crucible, and beat the crap out of the other while one is occupied. The Spear crucible is easy to stagger, and is also easy to avoid. Once the spear crucible is down, it's you and engval pounding Ordovis into submission.

Edit: The Claymore and Ordovis greatswords are my bread and butter weapons, along with the great mace for when Strike damage is optimal.

I got the lordsworn sword and shield very early in the game, then upgraded them both to +25, making them pretty effective.

Well The Greatsword is the Greatest of the colossal swords. If your using something else it's because you want to play with the unique ash of war of the weapon. I honestly can't think of a reason outside fashion to use any other 'normal' colossal sword.

All other swords in the various categories I find very unappealing. Especially Greatsword it's so dumb looking and Berserk sucks. Unfortunately that's probably the most common weapon I see used during coop.

You can always go for the classic Guts Build with the Greatsword. Put Heavy affinity on it with Lion's Roar for a fun build.

i would highly ignore this.

#1 physical damage greatsword is actually iron great sword, after damage resistance, and it kind of hints towards this with the highest scaling to str, and base AR.

for magic, dark moon.

for faith, its actually the gargoyles black greatsword (which has an amazing AoW that makes blashemous blade look like dookie.)

for arcane, sword of milos.

in terms of highest damage per swing, you HAVE to take in builds and its actually gargoyles black with a holy scorpion and alexanders. it beats even sacred relic and golden order.

in terms of best overall, and not damage. Claymore has a great mix up of stabs, and Knights is just an all around-er champion. zwei isnt bad if you can get use to it, same for flamberge thanks to their reach.

Sacred Relic Sword but you don't get a chance to get that until the very end of your run. I used Starscourge for most of my first play through.

Penis Greatsword, just whip it out

There are Great Axes and Great Hammers too.

There is a mod that allows you to access anything in the game.
It runs externally to the game. OFFLINE MODE with EAC Disabled.

You could use it to give yourself every great weapon in the game, for testing.
This way you know which one you like best.

Afterwards, you can sell or discard the great weapons and not launch the external mod.
This will revert you to previous state.
Alternatively, you could back up the game save before testing and then restore it.
At this point, you can Enable EAC and go back ONLINE.
