Melee build suggestions?
Hi there, been ages since I played this game, suck now and relearning everything before DLC comes out. Any fun melee build ideas? I like Straight Swords and GReatswords maybe ultras.
Thanks in advance, gamers

start the game
grab torrent
go to the redmane castle
acquire the wetstone for the fire infusion
then get the two pieces for the altus platau
find the Giant Crusher
go to the sealed tunnel and get the Smithing-Stone Miner's Bell Bearing (2)
on the wayback fight the crystal dude in Liurnia and get the Smithing-Stone Miner's Bell Bearing (1)
farm momma dragon at fort farrot
+40 STR and +4 weapon infused with fire in 1 hr.
have fun.

I respect the fast strat. I am more thinking about suggestions for a long term build but thanks for input nonetheless.

My suggestions I can give for Quality weapons would be Bloodhound's Fang (even though it's more on the Dex side) and Knight's Greatsword (probably the only weapon I know of that's actually stronger as a Quality over Keen or Heavy).

If you need ranged options, most "wind" types of AoW like Storm Blade or Vacuum Slice hits harder not based on weapon AR, but on the attributes and how high the upgrade is.

Ordovis' Greatsword and a charged skill build is one of my favorites, it sounds like it might be up your alley. It's more str/fth than str/dex, but you can still get some damage out of dex and the fth only affects the holy damage component iirc.

If you want a more well-rounded and more easily obtainable weapon though, the Nightrider's Glaive is solid all around, and can be adapted to almost any build.

It's a little bit of a pain to farm, but the Noble's Straight Sword is pretty underrated. It's another one that good with a lot of builds, and it's a very light and fast weapon.

Melee builds are still viable, yes. Make sure to level vigor though so you can tank some hits. And stamina so you can do more than two swings and a roll. Focus on damage stats last as upgrading your weapon/s will supply plenty of damage while you pump up your stats.

Oh I know that they are good I know about the vigor check too. I was looking for specific weapon recommendations that are really fun

The build strategies I see the most are basically...

1: Pick a favorite weapon or weapons then distribute your stats ideally to use them.

2: Pick a primary stat then use any weapons that work for it.

I prefer the second strategy. For example I'm currently playing an intelligence build with enough strength and dex to use the darkmoon greatsword, moonveil katana, wing of astel, death ritual spear, clayman's harpoon, etc. When I feel like making it more melee focused, then I'll only use close range sorceries like carian slicer, piercer, adula's moonblade, gavel of haima, etc.

I'm sure strength and dex are probably a bit more melee oriented, but all of the damage scaling stats have melee build options.

If you're going quality then Bolt of Gransax is really fun (though it's more of a dex weapon), go Visage Shield + Bolt of Gransax for your main loadout, block-pokes for 1v1s, flamethrower shield attack for crowd control, and Bolt's weapon art for sniping enemies at a range (it has completely bonkers reach)

Bolt of Gransax is in Leyndell so early game you'd have to settle for the regular Lance you can get in a Limgrave military camp, as soon as you've got 30 Strength you could go to Caelid and pick up the Visage Shield (if you're OK with twohanding it whenever you wanna use it)

(Also don't forget to upgrade the shield to increase the flamethrower damage)
