Is it possible to fix an Elden Ring save with cheat engine?
Legit question. Never seen it asked before. Just for general knowledge.

Yes. If a cheater nuked all your bosses, It is possible to restore your save to a playable state using CE. As with anything, there are pros and cons to this approach, but for someone with the misfortune of getting their save torched without a backup, it is worth considering.

Assuming you already have CE installed, download TGE's Elden Ring cheat table or Hexington's Elden Ring cheat table. I prefer to use Hexington's for this specific purpose, as it clearly labels event IDs with their associated bosses. If a cheater torched your save, all of these event ID's will be set to "off" or "dead". To restore your save's bosses, launch Elden Ring in offline mode and fire up the cheat table, then switch those ID's to "On" or "Alive". This will bring the bosses back to life and allow you to progress in this save file as you normally would.

The save-nuking cheaters will sometimes mess with other event ID's as well. I've found that tampering outside of the boss ID's has not significantly affected my gameplay, but YMMV.

PROS TO THIS APPROACH
- There is a slight learning curve, but once you get through it this method is really easy. It also teaches you a little bit about how the game works
- Really satisfying to know you just undid the dirty work of a filthy cheater and didn't let them ruin your day
- Don't have to start from scratch
- Don't have to risk downloading a new and potentially illegal save file

CONS TO THIS APPROACH
- Some NPC's/Bosses are marked as "dead" for story reasons. Dryleaf Dane comes to mind. It will be a matter of learning which is which.
- Some field bosses are not restorable. These are few and far between, but I've not managed to restore the Ghostflame Dragons for instance.
- This method is focused on fixing bosses and getting your save into a playable state. If the cheaters tampered with other aspects of your save, these will be unresolved until you trigger NG+
- This is a reactive method. It is mostly unnecessary if you are proactive and regularly make backups of your savefile. This is mostly for people who were caught unprepared and don't want to give up their savefile.

WHY I USE THIS METHOD
In short, i'm a petty bastard with sentimental attachments to my characters. Most of my toons are based around roleplay to some extent so i'm hesitant to give them up just because some degenerate got mad at me for smoking their asses in pvp. Hell, I've got 600 hours on my main!

The reason I advocate for this method is that new players are the ones who are most likely to be hurt by the influx of cheaters. I want more people to pick up and enjoy ER, and a new player who gets their save torched by a cheater is liable to quit for good. Nobody expects that they will need to maintain a backup for a AAA title, and frankly nobody should have to. This allows people to get their savefile into a playable state with minimal hiccups.

All that said: an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Yes, it is probably better to be proactive, regularly make backups and roll back whenever you run into one of these ingrates. This doesn't mean the fix is without value! Inevitably, some people will fall through the cracks and find their save has been torched and just want a fix. This method is for them.

One last addendum: i'm not an expert in using CE. someone else who is smarter than me or better at this sort of thing might have suggestions or critiques of this method that are also worth considering.

My thought is that the save could retain some corruption.
To me, a corrupted save is something to delete, not recover.
Even if possible, I wouldn't do it.
Oh yes, I agree on the importance of having clean back up saves. I was really just curious about the file itself. I've heard people say that a borked save can be fixed with cheat engine, and I was just wondering about the validity of that statement, and if it can be, what that process looks like.

Anyways, preciate the responses. Some good info here.

Your first post in the thread kinda disqualify what's stated in the former quote.

?
i posted short before my first post here and it was reported within 5 minutes for spam and it got deleted.
i'm sure the next report with the same reason (spam) will cause a directly a ban.
this was clearly a report system abuse.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

man what the ♥♥♥♥ are you talking about

here disappeared comments in this duscussion without any community message why they got removed or even how. there has no ban happen to the poster of the initial post that got deleted but my comment answer to his post simply disappeared.
I'm just going to post all this here because it was my comment that got removed, and all this totally stupid gibberish Radex is posting is apparently just fine. What a joke the moderation is around here. I don't care if I get banned, but if I get banned and you allow this freaking idiot to post keyboard vomit like this, the I hope you eat a bad taco and have diarrhea for a week, moderators.

yeah sure exposing darth diarrhero as what he is a diarrhero.

looks like this liar and deficator is abusing the report system to backup his diarrheroing.

i would not be surprised if darth diarrhero start to deficate onto me.

at the moment he report posts as spam to get his diarrheroing covered.

this question was answered before and he diarrheroed the commenter.

after a talk i had yesterday with a friend i see what darth diarrheros goal is he starts such discussions or derail discussions to create controverse fights to get ppl banned, if this does not work he indirectly insult ppl and send out others to insult the ppl he can not get into a bannable insult comment. [/quote]

and there it is the darth diarrhero starts to get his mundstuhl.

i can see a pattern in your argumentations. diarrheroing is your thing. everyone has to bow infront of the darth diarrhero or he get diarrheroed till darth diarrhero has enough and acticate his ban crew.

If anybody wants to see the horrific comment of mine that got deleted, it's quoted in comment #11, starts with "I know". Be prepared though, it's really graphic, not for the faint of heart.
