By Upgrade, did you mean Downgrade?
I shall revel a little secret running under the hood for all Ashs Of War. Unique or Otherwise.
-All Ashs have a custom formula was calculating DMG.
-Generic Ashs either scale to Weapon Value or Stat scaling.
-Unique & a handfull of Weapon Specific Locked have their values adjusted manually.
-Death's Poker has a very High Base DMG to it's scaling of the AoW, making "the Frost Blanket" hit above it's pay grade. Hoever, the Generic AoW does not used this.
-The Reason why a lot of generic AoW on unique weapons feel so lack luster is because they are all set the Standard infusion. While having a INT stat the Carian Knight's Sword AoW: Carian Grandeur Barely registers the users INT in it's Ash. Unlike a Infusable weapon set to Magic.
AKA: the Death's Poker is a exception to the rule.
As for scaling, the ones which scale of the weapon AR are the ones (or parts of them, since individual moves have their own scaling) which include hitting with the weapon itself. For the rest they all have their custom scaling numbers. But from this info alone you can't (before actual testing) say what does more damage.
I should add I only use Deaths Poker for the AoW, then switch to a magic infused weapon to deal weapon damage with.
Edit I switch between 3 different weapons depending on the target.
Edit 2, Deaths Poker is terrible early game. Just trying it now.
