Some stat advice?
Kind of running the game blind, been pumping most points into Vigor/Life and Strength with a few Dexterity every so often. Is there a certain cutoff point that I should be aware of for strength-based weapons or just good stuff in general? I just don't exactly want to go overboard on damage-based stats quite yet when I feel like I should be pumping Vigor/Life more anyway. Granted I'm barely into the game, only beaten Godrick/Goldilocks with the dragon hand for 'major' bosses up to this point.

Apologies if scrubby-sounding, I've not played an actual Souls-y game in a good long while and the rust kind of shows. :ac6_surprise:

Just a heads up, after like 40 or so (I could be wrong, could be 50 or 60) in any stat, you start getting diminishing returns in upgrades, making the other stats more worth it to rank up. So your weapons in any stat, slowly stop gaining damage.

I think I remember something vaguely about 40 being a cutoff point in old Dark Souls games. Guess I should have expected a little bit more of the same since it feels like a lot's borrowed from them.

this might be what you're looking for
https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Stats

specifically:
STRENGTH
Attribute required to wield heavy armaments.

Influences player physical/strike/slash/pierce defense and provides Attack Power scaling for weapons that utilize the stat.

Breakpoints for AP are: 16, 18, 20, 30, 45, 50, 60, and 80.

There is only a minor fall-off in returns after 16, 18, and 20:

16 for weapons with a quality affinity.
18 for weapons with poison, blood, and the physical portion of elemental affinities, and those with no affinity.
20 for weapons with heavy, occult, or elemental affinities, and innate elemental scaling.
Primary breakpoints are 50, 60, and 80:

50 for the elemental AP when it benefits from this stat (primarily fire affinity); gains drop substantially beyond this point.
60 for the physical AP on all affinities; 56-60 will give lower returns than 60-80.
80 for all affinities, but it’s usually only worth getting this much for physical affinities, and even then it can be a stretch.
Casting Breakpoints are 30 and 45 (Clawmark Seal and Frenzied Flame Seal both use strength).
Each of these values can be divided by 1.5 (rounded up) if you primarily 2h your weapon.

Keep in mind that the 2h AP bonus does not apply to ashes of war or critical attacks.

Pick a weapon you like, then pump the stat that it scales best with. Easy peasy.

basically do what this guy said but focus on getting your vigor to 60 before pumping damage stats. You won't see any big gains in damage from stats until the weapon is almost fully upgraded and you won't get the upgrade materials you need until late game.

Also, you CAN respec and the ability to do so can either be pretty early or much later, depends on when you go to the place and do the thing.
Vig is wasted points, just don't get hit.

Don't Apologies at all this game can be tricky at times at first but when you get a hang of it, it will be easy and for a build I will usually find a weapon group and raise the lvl to use that weapon and to get into that req and yeah raise vig to take in a few hits. Ignore what the others say but if you feel like you are stuck feel free to msg me for some tips or need some general help in the game :er_heart:

Pumping vigor at the start is definitely a good idea. The first vigor soft cap is 40 and until then, the gains actually increase per level - it tops of at 48 hp for the last point. The returns you get in that range are far greater than for any damage stats, especially at low upgrade levels, so I suggest putting everything into vigor apart from reaching min requirements of stuff you want to use until you reach 40 and then putting points into your primary damage stat. I think outright going for 60 vigor is a bit excessive; if you don't want to play pvp, I'd recommend going for something between 50 and 60 vigor in late game.
