Invasions are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get. To prepare for this, you need experience, which of course comes with time.
A few pointers though are to have lots of vigor and low requirement weapons that are as highly upgraded as the area will allow.
Also know your environments thoroughly, escape points, bottlenecks, dead ends, survivable falls, etc. Good luck.
Otherwise, there's about three things you have to master:
-Roll-catching. This is the act of timing your attacks to hit the end of someone's roll. This includes predicting when they're going to roll, whether you think they're going to roll out of panic, and knowing how to time your attack for the moment they get out of their roll. You also need to prepare for players who know how to roll catch themselves, and recognize when someone is timing their attacks based on how they expect you to roll.
-Turn'n'burn. Turn and burn is a common tactic of running away from one or more attackers, and then hitting them while they're chasing. It's important to know how to do this so you can also defend yourself from it when you are subject to it yourself, since it's incredibly obnoxious to face if you're not familiar with it, but also very effective at handling a group.
-Chase down. This ties into roll-catching, but you need to have a solution for enemies who are fleeing, especially if they might be trying to recover their stamina, build distance, or using turn'n'burns. Weapons with forward momentum on them like heavy thrusting swords or backhand blades, or weapons with extremely fast running attacks like fists or claws, can add constant pressure on someone trying to build distance.
If you wanna learn the basics, check out Rust The Bucket on YT, the guy is an absolute legend. I'd stay away from all the other content creators, if I were you. Chase is a great player, but he is an entertainer, not an educator, you ain't learning much there. And Steelovsky and the like are like Babadzaki's abandoned children - they are sad and angry, and so they turn to glitches, scripts, and cheats. Nothing against them, the game made them like this, but they are a bad influence.
1. The invader has the advantage of being able to craft a build specifically to kill other Tarnished, whereas Hosts and Cooperators usually just have a more general purpose build. Some will have an invader killer weapon that they will switch to if necessary.
2. Vigor is king.
3. Tarnished tend to be weakest to Lightning and Piercing physical damage. This is based on the fact that most armor doesn't provide as much protection against these damage type.
Fromsoft has not patched game-breaking co-op bugs. Invaders, and even co-op companions, can brick your save and your game.
Not to mention: PC players in the arena somehow dodge moves I have never seen console players dodge, in 300 hours of gameplay on console.
PC PVP is a mess of hackers and exploits. Just ignore it.
