Terrible lagging at launch
Hi everybody, hope you can help me out with this. I have almost 300 hours on Elden Ring. I played the game and started the DLC without problems. This happened last summer. I left it alone for a while then this week when I decided to start over. And boy, the issues. The game often does not launch and when it launches I have terrible lagging whenever I fast travel or a new area is charged. I usually close and re-open the game two or three times until it finally decides to start working properly. And if it does, I can keep playing without any lagging. I am playing on PC, i7 117000, Nvidia 3070 with 12 GB VRam on a total of 30 GB of RAM. Want to point out that last summer (with DLC already installed) I have none of these problems and the game was running like butter. Same PC, same specs.

I have tried different solutions already without much luck. I checked my error log and this is the last one I found (I hope I copied the right part)

normal cases for this log:

-damaged windows
-you have running a terrible background app that interfer with the game
-some extremely rare things which need a deeper check of your system

so first thing would be to run a full system repair

open command prompt as administrator and run this commands.

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

After this is finished

Sfc /scannow

now you need to repair the in use subsystem

Repair the c++ redistributables (open the files and run a repair each file please this are two different files)

https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x86.exe

restart windows

https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe

restart windows

if the problem appears again a background app check would be needed

game laggs like crazy on launch because the game loads both regular base game world and dlc world at once which is hella dumb but that results in the massive stutter and loading time at the start especially when your still using an HDD

I have two SSD of 500 GB each and I am planning to add a couple more cause I need space! The weird thing for me is that in August everything was perfect. Sure I had the occasional FPS drop, but nothing major. Now the game is unplayable. The stuttering are so bad that I cannot almost close it. This said, I just finished the windows repair and the C++ ... also the log told me I had a couple of corrupted files that have been properly restored, so, fingers crossed. Launching the game now, and will let you know! Thanks again!

Hello again! A quick update from me. First, thank you so much for helping me. You are a legend. I launched the game and had no issue and no stutters. I played a bit and fast travel just to make sure everything was ok. Then I saved and quit. Waited a bit (call it PTSD), launched it again and so everything ran smoothly. Now, I am not going to say anything cause I do not want to jinxed it, but thanks again for the help and for replying to me!
