FromSoft lets chaos happen. They profit from fanboy loyalty and dodge accountability while:
-Not adding real save protection
-Ignoring widespread cheat issues
-Giving no recovery tools
-Letting players suffer the same fate over and over
Even WoW has an unstuck tool for players who get stuck in-game in weird places.
Here's a funny one:

Cheaters like this are quite common lately and have always been a thing, even in previous titles. backing up your save file is your best measure against this kind of behavior . I'd argue that EAC does more harm than good, as griefers like this are still abundant, and yet we still pay the price of increased latency and hindered performance. Still, it's required if you plan on playing online.
Yep, this is the problem with a game where you can accumulate lots of hours on a character. But you have a risk losing it all because a game forces you to play with randoms whether you want to or not (in this game, only if you wish to play with your friends that is).
"Fixing EAC" or changing it to a "better anti-cheat" won't ever solve this problem. Because all anti-cheats are sooner or later bypassed (even ring-0 ones..). A better anti-cheat just raises the skill ceiling for the cheater. But that won't really matter as any skilled cheat coder can always just release their cheats (or sell it as some do.. ><) to the public.
The only solution to a game that forces players to connect to randoms is to either block all traffic from all other IPs than your friends IP (after they've connected) in your firewall. Or the better alternative is to use the seamless co-op mod. As that won't make it so that people that actually do want to play with randoms (no matter the risk) need to wait for connection timeouts when trying to connect to people that have blocked their IP.
There really is no other solution until from software gets their act together and realise that this is a problem they'll never be able to fully solve no matter what anti-cheat they use or other methods they'll try. Hence having random people join your game for any reason should be OPTIONAL. Because it's always a risk.
Alternatively, dont upgrade your weapons all the way. If your weapons and the hackers weapons are of different enough upgrade levels (theres a calculator for this stuff on the ER wiki) then they will never invade you.
But other than that, you can backup your saves. I havent done that but since I dont want to lose my SL43, 0 scadutree blessings, full-game-completion character :( so ill make a backup later today
Much as I love FromSoft games it's worth pointing out that these same hacks have been a thing ever since Dark Souls (2011) almost 15 yrs ago. I can't even remember how many of them I bumped into in Dark Souls 3. There at least we got the Blue Sentinel mod. Btw in DS3 the hacks were so bad they could breach your OS & compromise your entire PC! The mod creators warned the devs of this for YEARS with FromSoft doing absolutely nothing about it, until it got to a point where they had to shut down the entire multiplayer part of the game for several months before fixing this critical flaw.
It's really something ridiculous that we're here now. 14 years and several games later... same game-destroying & save-ruining hacks & exploits, and nothing's changed.
We're *WAY* past the point of any real reasons nvm. excuses. Honestly I'm glad Elden Ring's popularity is bringing a spotlight to this issue. Just wished it would finally lead to actual change too.
tldr; If you can't make a multiplayer bare minimum safe & reliable? Don't make a multiplayer. This level of negligence to customer experience & safety feels like it's bordering on criminal, imo.
That's great... That's just swell...
Oh there's hope. Especially since there new FromSoft games on the horizon that probably all use the same busted multiplayer network code. They'll have to fix it and hopefully it will make its way back to ER. Otherwise it won't be until some definitive edition or remaster.
Though regardless of EAC's relative ineffectiveness, it really shouldn't be possible for an invader or seemingly friendly cooperator to destroy a host's save file or teleport them below the map. It makes no sense for me to issue a command on my PC that directly affects your location, inventory, or world state and is something that needs better checks and balances. In other words, Fromsoft needs to fix their netcode or hire an outside company to fix it for them.
it was already done. blue sentinel protected players from a wide range of things. then fromsoft decided to go with EAC.
so all of these invasion hackers ruining save files. it's been going on since the release of ER in 2022. it's been going on with previous titles prior to ER. fromsoft does not care.
Maybe they are worried about players duping items, but people already do that with manual backups, so nothing will change in that regard.
