Elden ring shadow of the erdtree game share

So I want to buy shadow of the erdtree but it’s grayed out and I don’t actually own a copy of Elden ring but I have a copy via steam family. Do I need to actually buy the base game to get the dlc?

I believe that the base account with which it is shared from needs to buy the dlc, if it doesn't have the dlc and u don't have the base game on ur real account then it would make sense.
