ER is freezing and crashing on my new PC but works fine on my old laptop
Hey everyone, I have some weird issues with my newly-built PC, where my game is randomly freezing and crashing. However, on my old laptop, it runs fine. My specs are as follows:

New PC: RTX 4070 SUPER 12GB, 32 GB RAM, Ryzen 7 7700X
Laptop: RTX 3060 Laptop 6GB, 40 GB RAM, Intel i7 12700H

I'm running ER on high settings on my old laptop and max settings + max raytracing on my new PC.

Here are some things I tried to do to fix this issue:
- Run the game without launch options
- Use -high -heapsize 16777216 -threads 16 launch options
- Verify game files
- Set driver settings to the same as on my laptop for ER
- Use lower graphics settings (even with max settings, my GPU is running at good temps, and it is only 80% used with around 75% VRAM usage)
- Try running the game in -dx11 mode (this only made it worse)
- Running the game in borderless and fullscreen modes
- Changing my monitor refresh rate to 60 HZ (I have an 165 HZ monitor)
No other game freezes and crashes like ER does... how could I go about to fixing this issue?

please help, this issue is driving me crazy

EDIT: I've noticed that discord overlay attempts to start up when I run Elden Ring, could that be the issue?
and yes, I have disabled steam overlay and the steam controller thing

others reported that discord could cause issues, it uses the same subsystem (c++) and can interfer with the games communication

btw this game does not support commandline commands like -dx11 or others.

this game is dx12 only too.

thanks, I''ve also read that NVIDIA overlay can also cause crashes.
and raytracing on 40-series GPUs can also cause crashes?
is that last one true?

raytracing is a full directx implementation, if it cause crashes it has to do with the GPU driver

the nvidia overlay so far i know only cause issues if the GPU driver is faulty.

How can I check if my GPU drivers are faulty? The screen looks fine, and all other apps and games run fine on my current drivers.

the problem is you have no way to fully test the drivers functions and paths (there is no tool able to do this), other games use other connections, so far fromsoft is the only developer that use a directx only path, other games use a direct connection to the GPU driver for raytracing (also for other specific functions and optimisations) and not directx.

nvidia drivers can become faulty by update them, the best is to install a new driver by deinstall the last one with DDU before install the new driver.
nvidia had with the 566.x build a lot of workload issues (mostly effected GPUs are the 40 series) it is at the moment not enough data available to say that the 572.x build has no problems. the latest fully tested drivers are the 565.x builds but even there it is assumed that this driver build could have internal faults with specific GPUs causing specific crashes with this game under some overall circumstances (the crash logs in windows event viewer would show this).
