saves lost..

this is going to be severely confusing but im going to try.

downloaded seemless co op mod. tried to transfer saves and it did not work even after renaming to proper co2 file it was still listed as a sl2 file in proerties

I opened the file with a windows prompt with windows word. now my game saved files on my desktop and seperate file folder with saves all appear as windows "word files".

I reloaded base game to find all my 7 characters gone

all the saves are still listed in my appdata file but not loading

the icons appear is winows word files

I tired save recovery through steam but the files are now downloading ONLY as word files and there is no option to "extract" if it is a compressed file
the file downloaded appear as

%winappdataroaming%eldenring with a ton of numbers and THEN the sl2 file

Im gueeing this is a compressed file?

i doubt anyone can help this. I know its impossible from my decription nut I figured id give it a shot.

losing all 7 of my characters is a major bummer

It looks like you assigned word as the program that you open the file with each time. This is bad. There are a few things you can try:
1. Go to your save file, usually under AppData/Roaming/EldenRing/'numbers'/
2. In the folder options bar, click on 'View', then 'show' and 'show file extensions'. The names might vary.
3. Change the name of your save back to ER0000.sl2 or whatever the save name was.
4. If that doesnt stop it from being a word file, add a .bak to the end of the file name, ie ER.sl2.bak
5. If that works, change it back to just .sl2 and it *should*

If that didn't work, try this:
1. To remove an "Open With" association in Windows, go to your Windows settings, navigate to "Apps" > "Default Apps" > "Choose defaults by file type", then select the file extension you want to remove the association from and choose "Choose another app" to clear the default program assigned to it.

"Deafult Apps> choose by default type drops down a menu of about 150 different options. I have no idea what file type it is and or what to convert it to

Any and ALL downloads of zip files are now downloading as a word file and cannot be extracted. there is simply no option to do so

the only options for s12 are winzip or word no "default"

it is currently set as notepad as i tired achanging it from word

i do not know what nonsense you done to your savefiles else than to bind word to it.

i fear to tell you how to delete the .sl2 and .bak settings you made in the registry to first set back this.

but i thing you done more than this and renamed the seamless savefile into a sl2 file or modified the sl2 file with word and uploaded it to the cloud somehow.

i deleted the seemless save files from the appdata base game and deleted seemless co op as its not that important. So yes, you may be correct. it looks like I deleted an incorrect file.

I had saved back up files on my desktop and used that save file for seemless co op to rename saves to co2. but left 1 existing s12 files and the bak file. There were duplicates so i deleted the duplicates...

I did revert all files on my comp to default and downloads out of word but it looks like all my saves are gone permanently as I just installed the cloud download into the app data file and upon launching i get the EULA and no save games.

Guess im screwed

yeah its weird. all saves in appdata/roaming/elden ring are sl2 and a bak file and a vdf from steam cloud but for some reason it wont load saves. either base game or seem
less shows zero saves

I fixed the extension issue with word. Was kind of a panic moment as i thought i messed with the registry.

Im by no means an expert but im not totally comp literate. i had to manually change the excact file and THEN return all to factory.

Thank god.

As for saves...very bummed, i may try a little later but truth be told i can speed run game in about 25 hours and get to scadu level 8 in about 15 minutes for expansion.

I just wanted the seemless for pvp as the matchmaking and latency is far superior to the base game/rules/anticheat/code especially for invasions.

This is why seamless people are coping. People can hardly get their computer to work let alone mod on them. And this guy is going to "speed run" to replace his saves.

lmaooo. people that think invades are bad have never done one...

in base game I cap at level 150 even for DLC for matchmaking. I routinely face 3 level 175-200 players pinging at 450ms+ monkey mashing L2 and thats after 5-10 minute que's

Seem-less has no anti cheat (better latency) even matchmaking in levels and a ton less invasions in catacombs as a result of how summoning works in base game.

you can also turn off invasions in seemless so...
