Yes.
DS3 is a much different experience than ER. Much less forgiving. Not as much an 'open world' as is ER.
I would certainly wait for a $20 sale on DS3; don't pay full price for such an old game.
That being said, I don't think the DLC is worth the $40 asking price. But, it is what it is. If you liked ER, it is very much more of the same, but harder. Enemies are more difficult, exploration is more difficult, etc.
Note that the gear in the DLC is not better than what you can get in the main game. But you do get the Scadutree Fragments to buff up your and your summon's damage and defense. Quite significantly.
The DLC is also much, much smaller than the main ER game. Don't be fooled on that point.
So, whatever is going to please you the most is the thing to do. :)
Even at that Dark Souls 3 is MUCH easier than Elden Ring for a long trek of the journey
It's a bit funny how ER is praised for being accessible with the open world but is much harder than the Dark Souls trilogy at base are.
For OP though definitely would go with Dark Souls 3 just as a gateway drug to all the other Fromsouls.
