Royal Revenant is just stupid cheap.
Seriously one of the most stupid and cheap bosses ever.

Outcheap him. Use healing spell near him.
Specifically, Heal, Great heal, Lord's Heal, or Erdtree Heal. Other healing incants won't work. Blessing's Boon and Blessing of the Erdtree will also have an effect, but it's easier to just cast Heal twice.

Works on the Wraithcallers, too.

Heal only requires 12 Faith, making it accessible to anyone with the Faith-boosting talisman.

I'll give it a go tomorrow. Put the game down for the night. Thanks for the tip.

What about holy attacks? Like sacred blade?
Not sure about regular revenants or wraithcallers (wiki doesn't say), but the Royal Revenant ironically has higher holy resistance than any other kind of resistance. I mean, damage is damage, but revenants have a special interaction with healing spells that make them so much easier to deal with. And I feel no shame in using such cheap tactics against such a cheap enemy.

A wins a win, and there are no style points to worry about. Best to kill things in the safest way possible, no matter how cheesy it may be.
Worst thing is, that healing gimmick isn't mentioned pretty much anywhere, so for new players they WILL be frustrating. But then again, it's part of the charm

I believe one of the notes you can buy from the merchants has the info in it. Can't remember which merchant, though.
Greetings, OP.

You gotta deal with that flailing bulldozer, OP. Try to keep your cool and get out of the way.

Healing will stunlock them with an incredibly high damaging move. You'll have more than enough time to cast it before they can exit their summon animation, and then you can repeat the cast while they're flailing and injured.

I hate this enemy with a burning passion on Melee pures.
Flail attack seems to have some-type of stick affect to it.
