Strength or dex?
I'm currently leveling up for first boss, I've been putting most into vigor and a few into strength, not realizing that strength is for big weapons damage output and dexietery is for long swords, scimatars etc.

I haven't much exp with heavy weapons, only the halberd you start with and a spear, they've been lacking compared to my long sword. I normally go for shorter swords not big 2 handed weapons but I might change my mind.

I heard theres a build called quality which levels both dex/str, maybe that's more suited for me if I want to try out different weapons. Anyway, before I commit anymore points into str or dex, can anyone give me any pointers to help make my mind up.

Also, is endurance something I should start leveling up?

I'm enjoying the sword/shield and sometimes 2h when I need too, so I won't be touching magic or anything else

Endurance is important early on as it increases your stamina and carry load.

As far as str vs dex, level up based on what weapon you’re currently using/comfortable with (look at its scaling).

You can always respec later in the game just in case you eventually change your mind
Str depending on the scaling of the weapon or two handed fists or a good str weapon and the beast curved swords with bleed.

Vigor.
Until your vigor hits 40 don't level anything else unless its 1-2 points in str/dex to get access to a weapon class. Once you hit 40 vigor you will have had enough experience with the combat system to make a more educated choice on what kind of weapons you want to use.

You will also have made it far enough to the game to have gotten access to a few unique weapons with unique ashes of war or other scaling options such as arcane.

I would say that STR is more important. Even dex weapons usually scale with STR. STR is also needed for good shields. Lots of STR. You get bonus damage from STR if you 2h a weapon. On top of that you get physical damage negation bonus from STR. DEX makes you cast spells a bit faster.

Just get the amount of Dex needed to handle your weapons.

Point for point, you will gain a bit more damage from Str even at equal scaling. A Quality type weapon is not a good idea. They will pnly do more damage once you have like 40 to 60 Str/Dex then your standard scaling. The letter isn't everything, because it also cause lower the base damage of the weapon. But on my Lvl.300 Quality is the way to go.

For starting, focus on survavibility with plenty of Vigor and Endurance. Boost your Str by the end of the game since a max upgrade weapon will grow more damage with every stat point.
