Samurai pure faith caster
So I was wondering if the starting class really mattered if I was to make my samurai a pure faith caster or should I start again and go for prophet or does it not really matter? I'm currently level 164.

Just keep playing.
In the worst situation, you can respec with Rennala

Does it not matter too much then even though I started as samurai

The starting class really doesn’t matter. Stats determine your build, so if you mostly level faith then it’ll work out.
as the others have said
worst case scenario is that it'll slightly less efficient which doesn't really matter at all in singleplayer and only a little in multiplayer if you're min-maxxing
your starting class does affect your respec-ing (i.e the minimum stats you can allocate) but losing out on like 2 stat points that went into an attribute you don't use really isn't a big deal

Suboptimal. FTH is like one of his worst stats, and you got a lot of DEX too.
If you are going for pure casters - your intention is to keep STR/DEX at minimals to only fit in the weapon you want to use and that's that, while the rest of the stats shoud be as low as possible. If you want to be a FTH katana weilder - i guess that's fine? Although at that point Vagabond, Prophet and even Confessor might be better options.
Its not a super big deal, you only miss out on like 2-3 extra stats tops where you want them to be, but still...

That's actually really helpful! So really I should perhaps start again as prophet ideally? For some reason internally it bugs me as well just knowing it's 2 or 3 as small as it is. I was just really conflicted and needed some opinions, I have just finished the game so I think I'll start again

Yeah, if you want to just be pure incantation caster - you have a choice between Prophet, Vagabond, Confessor and i think Hero?

Prophet starts with highest starting FTH and very basic STR/DEX as well as lowest INT (tied with Hero). He will barely be able to use some basic small weapons like his Spear and most straight swords, but can't use anything heavier or more refined.
He also has lowest END (no stamina and can't wear anything heavier than his homeless rags).

Vagabond starts with decent generalist stats and has lowest ARC of 7 - a generally useless stat unless you like causing bleeding or using very specific incantations that require it (mostly dragon communion and blood-related ones).

Hero has lowest DEX, MND and INT - perfect for STR/FTH hybrid builds, although it also means that you have no mana without leveling up Mind a bit.

Confessor is a bit of a meme with the worst stat distribution after Wretch, but he's not too bad - he's basically a hybrid between Vagabond and Prophet:
Saves +2 stats on reduced INT/ARC (9/9), has 2nd highest FTH, and 12/12 STR/DEX gives him access to a variety of basic weapons (more than Prophet anyway).
For example: he has just enough STR to use Morning Star, but also enough DEX to use Misericorde for crits as well. Perfectly balanced, IMHO, a versatile quality b*astard with FTH performing a supportive role.
He also starts with the hardest drip and a VERY decent melee kit rivaling that of vagabond: a shorter, but harder-hitting sword and a superior medium shield.

That's perfect, thank you. Really makes my choice easier with the explanations. I think that's pretty much made my mind up, I think i'll go for the prophet.
