A Tip for Malenia, I beat her today:

Try using barricade shield ashes of war on your shield and keep defending, whenever she prepares to use that attack where she stands on the air right before hitting you with tons and tons of slashes.

Malenia recover 5% of her max HP each time she hit the player, shield included.
Tanking that storm of attack will just bring her to full health.

It is harder but way much better to dodge.
It is also possible to prevent her doing this specific attack with a well placed frost pot, but as the move takes ages, you'd be prepared.

no it didn't. Although she recovered health whenever I did it, it never went to full health, and she recovered less health than I expected, I think less than the amount of health I would lose if I tried to tank that attack without shield.

Yeah, I was using a scythe with frost, it really makes the fight easier, especially considering that she breaks her guard after a few hits from the scythe.

As a shield user I had to change my gameplay habbits to face her, because she was healing too much.
Maybe something in that particular Ash of War ?

So, I'm a shield user as well. used shield on every dark souls as well.

I think it was that particular ash of war, and my build has a lot of points on vigor and endurance. Also, I had fought her before beating the game, but since I wanted to beat the game first, I tried again today after beating the game, around level 145 from what I remember, so maybe my level helped to endure this attack. But this strategy was working well even when I was at a lower level.

Dodging still better, faster and even safer imo.
Never used shield when beating bosses but I did try fingerprint shielf on Malenia, one of my worst results (as ever whenever I try to use shield against any boss... yes I dont know how to use shield but I do know how to dodge).

Remember the Site of grace called "gates" where you get your horse ? There is a small camp full of soldier there. They can loot their triangle brass shield; it has extremly low STR requirement and 100% physical bloc.

But if you made your way trough the game so far without a shield, just keep dodging, it is more effective.
