whats the point of the dragonbolt of Florissax
like... is it actually any good ? its requirements are way higher than golden vow, yet, its not nearly as good. It feels outclassed from the start.

another one is rain of fire from salza. When he uses it, it has perfect tracking, way bigger range and better damage, but when we use it, the tracking is awnful, if something is in the high ground or lower and you try to cast it, and even at a medium distance... it just cast it upon yourself.

and was midra flame of frenzy supposed to be a good alternative for the hold to shoot frenzy spell from the base game or even howl of shabriri ? its not that good, i just dont see the point of being a 2 slots spell.

These incantations feel like... they need a good buff.

Yeah, none of those are very good. On one hand, I feel like every spell should have some kind of niche. On the other hand, trying to make every spell perfectly balanced is an exercise in futility (and frustration). So basically yes, they really need a bit of something to make them stand out a little more.
For Deagonbolt - Based on a quick wiki check I'm guessing it's a superior choice for shield tanks as it helps with blocking.

Don't know about others, but balancing was never FromSoft's strong side. They just kinda throw things together sometimes, it's more of a lore spell than an actual useful mechanic.

Red lightning spells are absolutely devastating. They do a significant amount of damage, and they can break poise on most enemies. Dragonbolt also comes with the advantage of your character performing a little hop into the air- this can help you to dodge a lot of attacks, and immediately counter with a huge blast of lightning to the face.

Follow up by getting behind the target while they're standing up, hit them a few times. It's great.
it looks a lot cooler than golden vow. that's mostly it

iirc golden vow buffs physical damge done and mitigates damage taken. dragonbolt of florissax (DoF) matches golden vow in terms of damage mitigation, but lacks the physical damage buff. but in the case of a tarnished that is a pure caster (which is pretty likely for any character with the stat investment required to cast DoF in the first place) then they wouldn't really be losing anything by choosing DoF over Golden Vow. kind of a niche use case but it's viable!
