New, persistent crashes after 400 hrs
I've played Elden Ring for several hundred hours, but recently began experiencing crashes so consistently that it's hard to continue. I'm running the latest version of Windows on an AMD processor with integrated graphics and fully updated drivers. The only hardware change I've made recently is to increase the machine's memory from 16GB to 64GB; stability has been unaffected elsewhere (and the ram passes memcheck86). I can get Elden Ring to load if I turn graphics settings to minimum and reduce the resolution to 800x600, but the game looks comical with these settings. The game will crash when I load into a new area or load large assets without the graphics settings at a minimum (and sometimes even with them turned down).

I'm feeling desperate! I've even done a clean reinstall of windows 11 and ER and the instability persists. Any help appreciated!!

Roland42 8 dec, 2024 @ 7:35
same here, was able to play normally last month, end up crush every few minutes of play. Any one have solution for this?

Theyve had issues with this latest windows update being incompatible with some versions of Easy Anti Cheat and specific Intel CPUs which will result in application crashes. Really starting to dislike windows:er_angry:

Never update windows automatically. They constantly break ♥♥♥♥, especially if you do more than just gaming.

You learn this the hard way when windows has an update and suddenly you can not work anymore and earn money.

He has an AMD processor, so that sort of rules out that issue for him.

Safefile corruption?
I don't think it was the savefile since I can sometimes successfully start with graphics settings at a minimum. (or is there another safefile too??)

No kidding! Fortunately all my work is done on Linux; Windows is just for gaming.

The first thing I would attempt is verifying your files.

Someone above stated that your save file may be corrupted. Try creating a new character and play the game to see if it still crashes. If it doesn't, that means your save file maybe corrupted. I find it hard to believe because your game would still boot, but you would not be able to access your save file. I know, I've gone through that pain and lost all my characters. Make sure you remove and save your your save file from your %appdata% folder before attempting this because ER will see the file and still crash if it is corrupted.

the crash log you get would give a additional information (beside that windows 11 24h2 let crash a lot of games and cause instability of drivers, malfunction of EAC and a lot more issues).

Game files pass verification; sorry I didn't mention that before. I can try a new character tonight.

Happy to get that! Could you point me to a quick tutorial for collecting a crash log? I don't use windows too much, but can follow instructions/fill-in gaps.

Thank you so much!

Here are the 2 varieties of crashes I had (unique exception-code & offset combination; process id and start time obviously varied). I may have 2 types because the crashes were triggered 2 ways: 1) just loading from a save (mitigated with super-low quality settings), the game would exit automatically; and 2) "randomly"? while playing---I think when a new model got loaded, e.g, the Manse in the Abyssal Woods---then I would have to Alt+F4 or Alt+Tab to get out.
