If you wanna play from scratch, why would you want to use an old save?

As far as the save itself goes, I'm sure you'll have to update to the newest version of the game, so the old save wouldn't work. And if you try to force it, it would probably lead to a ban. Can't say for sure. Never tried it.

Why would you get banned for an old save file lmao

Next time make smth up about your friend. Pirating is illegal and thus against Steam TOS.

You only get banned for cheating. If you own items that are not available in the game or if you do other stuff. If you play offline none of that matters though.
If you use cheat engine make sure to do that offline and then go online afterwards to avoid getting banned.

are u sure tho? lets make a hypothetical: what if i was offline and used the trainer to make all my attributes 99, then used the trainer to the trainer to make myself lvl 713 and gave myself 20000 discovery, then came online, wouldnt that be sus? would i get banned? if so, then what if i DIDNT did the discovery thing, what about then? im just wondering

I can't be certain of this, but from my understanding:

- Save files are associated with accounts. So it can tell when you're loading up a save file from someone else. Not sure if this includes loading a save from a cracked version or not, though.

- Directly modifying stats can flag the save file for cheating. The way I've heard to get around this is that you instead spawn in a bunch of runes on the ground and pick them up, then use them. As far as the game is concerned, you "found" completely legitimate rune items and used them normally.

I've used the lite version of the Grand Merchant mod to give myself items (either to get mutually exclusive items, or when gearing up a fresh character for a themed run). I always go offline while giving myself items, then uninstall the mod before going back online. So far, I haven't had any issues with getting banned.

You also don't really need to use cheats to level up. There are plenty of rune farming spots in the game, including some that are accessible very early on.

the thing is that i had to use the trainer, im a soldier and only have a few hours each day to game and cant spend those few hours doing one thing like farming or being focused on one area or one boss, had to go at the game fast with the trainer so i could experience all the majesty elden ring had to offer, im now sad about that cuz i should have spent my time experiencing it all for the first time, but now idk. i wanna play with my old character on the retail version but i dont wanna get banned.
u sure the trainer doesnt do the rune thing too?
also how does banning work? if i log in with the old save files will i immidietly get banned or is there some time before i get banned? do i even get banned?
