Was the game nerfed?
So, I started playing this again after awhile and my characters all feel incredibly weak.
Did the game nerf a bunch of things?

Define "a while" and your set up.

That is the reason, you lost some of the rhythm and muscle memory you had from last time you played

I feel the other way around. I've been playing almost uninterruptedly and each time I start with a new character I feel the enemies easier

yes, this game has nerfed several things, so if you were running maybe moonveil or rivers of blood at the earliest it'll be cheeks now for you.

The enemies feel like DPS sponges. What I used to kill in a few hits before now take like 10 or more hits.

Playing with Golden Halberd, enemies still die the same as they used to die 1 year ago.

Maybe "damage buffs" were nerfed, the Golden Halberd for ssure was not neither the enemies were buffed.

Maybe that is it. I tend to use Bloodflame Blade incantation on an Uchigatana. The damage feels so weak now and I definitely remember it hitting a lot harder about 8 months ago.

Your skills were nerfed by not playing

Depends? Like every patch was 98% buffs, 2% nerfs. If your weapon happened to fall into that exact 2%, maybe you noticed a drop.

Just curious.

Plenty did after release. Lots of heavy weapons from my recollection in terms of recovery time after strong attacks. Poise damage on colossal hammers were changed significantly. Some spell costs were altered, and some under-utilized talismans got some love. I believe the hammer talisman was on that list.

That's certainly not the full list, but it was a while ago and there were several patch notes in the month after release. I didn't include it on the list, but Arcane got a fix, which I suppose you could call it a buff. Weapon damage wasn't scaling correctly with the arcane stat. Anyway, that's just a few items. Anyone else, feel free to add on to this list.

Edit: one of the major "buffs" was the prevalence of Smithing Stone 1. They were very rare at release where you found everything but 1s, meaning that your standard weapons were very weak if you experimented. They increased the drop rate and made them far more numerous to find in the world. I know they did this for Smithing Stone 1, not sure if they buffed any of the others with it.

everything but poise and raw damage got nerfed to the point people only use high armor/giant weapon builds in pvp, back then u saw all kinds of builds, like madness, instant death, bleed, rot, poison etc nowdays its just people in heavy armor and giant weapons or dual spear/polearm/lance, its kinda sad

Certain meta builds got nerfed, but overall I think most things got buffed.
