The old grab kill, yeah just run and hope it was away from where he teleports lol you can dodge roll out with perfect timing so at least try or bloodhound step if you have it on a dagger.
Another option is let a summon or spirit take the brunt of it lol

You can roll through the grab. When she teleports back in, Astel will open her arms wide and hold for a second to goad you into rolling early. Then she'll lunge and you can roll through it.

That same attack killed me about 3 or 4 times before I beat the boss, so I get the frustration.

But if you don't panic and look out for it, you can roll out of it without too much trouble.

People keep saying stuff like this, I can't look out for it. You can't rotate your camera fast enough. It doesn't just spawn left, it spawns everywhere.

Im now trying to get the mimic tear and cheese it with the big beam, the whole fight is easy except I just can't see the grab coming.

The thing is, the one going for you and the clones all lunge at the same time. So if you are watching the movement of any of them, you should be able to time a dodge.

It isn't easy obviously, but that's what I did. Not sure what else I can suggest other than cheese, which I personally would never suggest because I feel that isn't very fun.

Easy way to defeat him (even at RL1).
!. Summon Latenna.
2. Proc rot or poison on boss.
3. Use Pulley Crossbow with burred bolts.

Astel was the first boss that made me question using dual greatswords, and this was at launch before today's buffs lol. But I got his ass. basically stayed underneath him and smacked his head any chance I could. It did take me quite a few tries.

I can't imagine how easy that fight would be with sorcery now.

Mimics tear isn't super powerful anymore and it gets confused if you have a lot of spells equipped also if you are glassy it will be glassy as well. I would reccomend a tankyier one like the headless knight, I have heard the great archer guy isnt bad either but I cant confirm that.
