Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones should be buyable or at least farmable..not limited items
because I find it really dumb we have to get a unique stone for a +1 upgrade that's in vastly limited qualities, Id prefer it to be buyable after finding a bell bearing that would require you to do something elaborate, it would have been more memorable.

Do not agree. Top level of weapons should be hard to obtain.

Larval tears can be traded. If you're really needing more than the 7 or so you readily pick up during a single run, you could likely make some friends who can backup their saves, drop a few for you, and revert their save.
I know that you can get more respecs than the few per playthrough, id just prefer having the option of unlimited respecs without having to use save backups, I just dont see the value in not making them farmable once you finish the game
Totally agree that Ancient Dragon stones should be farmable. There should be copies of Malenia running around that have a % chance of dropping them when defeated.

I remember you could farm the top smithing stone in other Souls games. I'm kind of disappointed that there's no way to farm them in Elden ring. Luckily for me I didn't need more than you get in a single run.

Several of the Somber ancient dragon smithing stones come from NPC questline rewards.
All but the final one in Dark Souls 3 as well so same situation. You got a few in the main game but it was the DLC that really added a bunch of extras in so that a single run gave you quite a bit (maybe 14 per run iirc? so a good amount). I doubt they will make it buyable as they want to enforce the quests but perhaps the DLC will help make it less scarce. It would be nice if we could farm it though, like in Code Vein, even if the difference isn't that big for +24 > 25.

DS1 & DS2 I'm not sure since I haven't played them.

Tbh I never understood why respecs and max upgrade items were limited. Artificial rarity is annoying and adds nothing. Even if I had to get to NG+3 or something for it, that would be fine to me. But at the same time I've accepted it'll probably never change. I meant they've done it forever now.

Respecs I can understand because it forces you to think about it and have a reason. If respecs weren't limited, there would be a meta around micromanaging respecs for every boss and for PvP and back, and the complaining would dwarf what we see now about bleed nerfs.
I remember in ds1 days when you could only choose 2 weapons per playthrough if you wanted a full upgrade, you get like what, 8 in this?

You could be entirely right in fairness, I don't even respecc my characters, but I just feel like if I wanted to, I should be able to without watching how many x I have, or at least knowing its a resource I can't naturally replenish. Because tbh my counter point would be "Hyper low drop rate from a notably hard enemy"

Maybe tie it to time spent in game. Have some tree,statue,etc drop a larval tear every so many hours spent in game and it only drops one if you have none so it isn't farmable or beneficial to hotswap builds that frequently.

yeah but is +10 really that vastly different from 9+? I saw scalling go from A to S in one case but damage wasn't that much better tbh.
scaling tiers actually have multiple values between each letter. a weapon can be only 1% of the way to 'S' at +9, and making it +10 might get it 99% of the way to 'S', so it still shows 'A' for scaling, but internally it still has basically 'S' tier scaling. Likewise, a +9 could be 99% of the way to S but show A, then +10 would make it overshoot S by a large margin and have significantly more scaling damage than the previous weapon.
