If you kill the fire giant there are some cut offs confirmed.
-The red npc that gives you RIVERS OF BLOOD will vanish permanently until a new game + if you kill him. Big missed weapon
-Atlus kingdom will become buried under sand. Any chance of picking anything up gone forever.
-Some quests are effected, but I can't confirm what ones sorry.
-Believe the storm castle is changed similarly to Atlas kingdom. Gone from obtaining smaller finds for good.
Just off the top of my head, and a think one or two of these are from burning the tree not beating the giant. BUT losing rivers is confirmed.

Well depends on what you have been doing. Some NPCS are still available but skip steps on their journey. You can still complete Alexander's quest, Hyetta , Irina and Vyke might be bugged out, since lots of people seem to have issues with Vyke not invading them.

No killing the fire giant does NOT bury Lyndell under ash. Killing Malekith does.

As I said can't confirm, just experience of what I lost in my first play through. You lose a few things to fire giant, and then you lose even more to burning the tree. Never heard of mali being the result of any of it, but could be true. -Shrugs-

Oh I see . I thought maybe Alexander needed to join the giant fight in order to progress questline.

Altus gets buried from defeating the fire giant, or is it from lighting up the Erd Tree?

The city is called Leyndell, it gets covered in ash after Killing Malekith aka the beast clergiman.

Maliketh is the boss that once defeated, the capital is buried. Fire giant sets the tree ablaze but Maliketh is when tree becomes really burning 🔥
