am I weak/do i need to start over?

I seem to be struggling with Elden ring I failed to defeat the first story mode boss (the guy with a giant hammer) on my own had to summon a helper and use the wolves and am currently struggling with the knights in storm veil castle (I'm level 35 and a bandit) my states are HP 598, FP 71, Stamina 106, max equip load 64.1, poise 17, discovery 115.0, r. aren't 1 107, r armenent 2 24, r.arnement 3 24, L arnemt 1 24, l arnment 2 24, L arnment 3 24, DEFENSE POWER: Physical 89, vs strike 89, vs slash 89, vs piece 89, magic 103, fire 97, lighting 85, holy 115, immunity 188, robotness 191, focus 190, viratility 202.

Answer yes your weak stormveil you need to be a +3 weapon min if new to souls games then level 50 better

i would not say start over, but rather go build up a bit more .

Yes you are currently weak. You need to level up yourself and weapons. But you should decide what kind of build you are going to play (mage, melee, etc).

But dont start over, you will just hurt yourself

explore limgrave, get better equipment and upgrade materials to upgrade your favorite weapon

It's Ok, just explore other areas (south and east from strarting location, or even go notrh to lucaria).
Or else you can summon some players to help with the boss

What is the main weapon you are using? Have you upgraded your weapon at a smithing table? Are you struggling with mechanics of the game?

well not to be a smartass but genuine advice; it's subjective, if you aren't enjoying something and think you are too weak then you are too weak, just explore do whatever get stronger try the boss every once and a while until you feel comfortable and is "fun"

In short, you really decide when you are too "weak"

You're fine... Just keep leveling up & exploring. You are not intended as a new player or unskilled player to bull rush the 'story bosses' of the game.

lvl 35 is .... REALLY low.... Just enjoy the game at your own pace & learn from what happens.

Highly recommend finding a weapon that feels good to use and then focus on upgrading it to at least +3 for stormveil. A good way to get early smithing stones is from certain merchants or going into the limgrave mines.

Another tip I have is to put a lot of points into vigor when you level. It's easily the most important stat as it is simply HP. In the early game your damage honestly comes more from weapon upgrade levels than it does your stats, such as strength or dexterity.

okay, thanks additionally you know the golden knight outside the castle gate (just before where the giant jumps down at you) should I still be struggling with him? i recently beat him without using the summing wolfs but i still need to use health potions (about 5) I guess I'm struggling with dogeing even with the sidestep

You can summon sorcerer Rogier. You can also buy Margit's Shackle from Patches to help you with the first phase.

What everyone else failed to notice is most likely your issue: you only have 598 HP. Bosses tend to hit stupid hard in Souls-like games. Get your Vigor up to raise your HP so you don't die in one hit!

Definitely start over, imo.
Bandit is not a noob-friendly starting class.
Go for Vagabond and raise Vigor to 30 and later 40.
Just meet minimum requirements for weps and you'll be alright.
After you have 30 or 40 vigor, begin statting out what you want.

This will give you a decent HP pool, which will help the game not feel like a struggle.

Knowing your stats would help more than those numbers. Don't start over, instead go explore some more, you might find some cool weapons to tackle the challenge, and even level up and upgrade your stuff. As mentioned by others, Vigor is important (cause it means more HP, which helps on survival) but don't just pump everything on vigor, cause you might need stats to properly use some of the weapons you find.
