Are axes actually the worst weapons
Or do whips and daggers just barely edge them out of the bottom of the barrel?

Would love the two-handed axe barbarian lifestyle, but my level 26 Hero with 23 Str literally cannot compete with my level 14 Prisoner armed with Lordsworn Straight Sword.

Sacrificial axe is best offhand weapon for exploring.

Big weapons just aren't as good for most cases since the swing and recover time is so high while many enemies attack quick. They can work well if using summons as a distraction since it will let you buff and do jump attacks for large damage, or charge a heavy attack. But for normal use... kinda lacking.

A weapon is only as good as you make it. I say if you like the idea of having an axe, keep using it! And tbh Rosus' axe is one of my favorite weapons in the game. Such a cool weapon art.

yeah the normal axes are kinda trash. daggers are better faster and have more crit.. and whips are there own kinda special thing.. they have there own spot..

Yeah, 1H Axes and 1H Hammers are pretty bad in this game.

Wasn't there a video where some guy just axed Melania to death with that rush and swing down move? Seems pretty great .
Whips and daggers are not bad at all. I literally watched someone get one shot with Urumi the other day, and the Black Knife and Reduvia are very solid options due to their ranged ashes, plus a myriad of other daggers and whips that are pretty good. This isn't Dark Souls 3, Whips and daggers are unironically no joke in Elden Ring, not only viable, but very good options. That being said I don't know much about Axes, I've only ever used Rosus' Axe on an Int Str build, it was alright, not amazing but not weak. It did it's job even if I get staggered out of it.

Wild Swings skill seems to do truckload of damage, but no dodge or block so unless it's stationary and doesn't attack it's uh... lacking.

I just have the starting Hero's Battle Axe at +3 (I'm new, ok, level 25 or so) as I haven't seen any other axe.

I'm also looking at hammers/maces or halberds, if those are decent. I'm not going top meta here, I just want a good, Str scaled axe/blunt weapon that can at least hold a candle to Lordsworn Straight Sword on a toon with half the strength.

1 hand axe hit hard but it have very short reach so if u like axe go with greataxe hit harder than greatsword with more poise damage good to fight harden mob
it dont have horizon swing so not great again multi small enemy

I have a build use crescent moon axe exclusively. I am at leyndell capital and still feel quite easy most of the fight.

Use determination and jump attack, it was very effective up to altus. And recently i swapped to sword dance and it turn the slow giant axe into a wide fast swing monster.

Celebrant's cleaver has probably the best Heavy, because of tracking. + 10 runes each hit :c7xd:

Another good for casters is a sacrificial axe. While holding it, you can restore FP. Combining offhand with spirit horn talisman give 7FP, which is not bad at all!

But actually, any axe that gives you the ability to put Wild Strikes Ash of War is amazing. Truly, a barbarian experience.

You know you can get other weapon arts and apply them, right?

The advantage of Sacrifical Axe is that you get back FP with each kill. This can greatly extend the amount of FP you have without needing to allocate flasks. With certain main hands and arts, this becomes easy to abuse while exploring.

Wild Strikes is nice but I feel like I'd need an AFK target lol.
