ITEM DESCRIPTION: A shard of the shattered Elden Ring.
Grants the blessing of an equipped Great Rune upon use.
Even if no Great Rune is equipped, it will slightly increase maximum HP upon use.
It even tells you in the notes for Rune Arcs. Investigate a little, and you'll find that it isn't bad game design but rather mediocre investigation on your part. Git-guder.
Truth be told though...It took me literally a whole playthrough before I figured this out...for what it's worth.
What is useless? Rune Arcs or Great Runes? Rune Arcs have minimal use by themselves, but the Great Runes are quite useful when charged with a Rune Arc.
You must be fun at parties.
Don't know if you're trolling or not but I agree. I used one great rune, found out it relies on finite resources and never used it again. Beat the game five times without them. They are useless.
About everything. It's the classic case where you wonder if the post is stupid or just trolling.
Agreed.
In a game where dying can happen often, activated Great Runes using precious consumables can literally be the mechanic that gives the player just enough edge to have a chance at progressing through an otherwise out-of-reach area or encounter.
Where would the challenge be if the thing that activates a Great Rune is found everywhere and so easily procured? It's meant to be more of a 'Hail Mary' when you happen to find yourself encountering a sudden brick-wall moment in the game.
If we're being honest, Rune Arcs are actually pretty numerous in the PVE part of the game, and if you PVP, you can farm them indefinitely, and Great Runes remain active until you die. That's pretty useful. Permanent though? Now that'd just be silly.
