Here's my personal tier list.
Always a Great Pick
- Lands Between Rune — You get $3,000 for free, which is a massive boost at the start of the game. This item essentially gives you a few extra starting levels.
- Golden Seed — An extra flask for earlygame is a very welcome insurance against taking damage, especially since the Tarnished's defensive stats are so bad that you might as well be a twig.
Here's the ones that I think are more situational but still good picks:
Good Pick but Situational
- Stonesword Key — Being able to unlock a gate right away is very significant. You can use it right away on Fringefolk Hero's Grave (and that's not a bad idea), but you can also save it for a different gate, like the one in Summonwater Village blocking the stamina regeneration talisman.
This one's more situational because stonesword keys themselves are fairly common.
- Bewitching Branch — This item is actually a pick for lategame. Bewitching Branches are exceedingly rare, and these are especially useful against bosses that summon flunkeys, such as Commander Niall.
Situational but Meh
- Boiled Prawn —15% physical damage negation is massive for our Tarnished, given its propensity to die after taking 2-3 hits. However, five pieces is a very small amount to stretch across earlygame until you meet Blackguard Big Boggart.
- Shabriri's Woe — This lets you juggle aggro with a jolly cooperator or a Spirit Ash more easily. This would be a stronger pick if you couldn't already pick one up in early-midgame.
No Point in Picking
- Crimson Amber Talisman — More health can mean the difference between taking two hits or three. A paltry 6% difference is very shallow however, and you can already buy one earlygame from a merchant within 5 minutes' walking distance of the First Step
(Weeping Peninsula, Castle Morne Rampart grace).
- Fanged Imp Ashes — This Spirit Ash's only notable quality is unlocking the Albinauric Rise in Consecrated Snowfield. Earlygame, there are several other Spirit Ashes within Limgrave that you can replace with Fanged Imp Ashes until you progress to Liurnia. It suffers the same accessibility problem as Shabriri's Woe.
- Cracked Pot — Cracked Pots are plentiful everywhere, and having one more pot earlygame makes basically no difference as the selection of pot craftables is incredibly limited.
its about ~ 1000runes per kill and a kill takes 1minute
this location can be reached within 3 minutes of the game
So 3000runes only saves you about 5-10 minutes of playtime.
I personally would say thats completely irrelevant rather than a massive boost
In the end it doesnt matter what you choose
its a small bonus no matter what you choose
and you could be perfectly fine without choosing anything
