Buff damage on great swords?
comparing my flame art iron great sword (one of the hardest hitting GS in the game) and its damage is less than some long swords not even dual wielded. the pay off for a slower weapon isnt really there. Thoughts?

Your great sword should defiantly be doing more damage than straight swords, what are your stats?

Are you sure you are meeting the minimum weapon requirements? Godrick's Great Rune wore off, etc.?

vigor: 43
mind: 30
Endurance: 34
Str: 52
Dex: 50
int: 20
faith: 62
arcane: 12

weapons are:
flame art iron greatsword +25: damage on enemy: 518
Magma Blade +10: 528

coulda been a crit or headshot or something? i dont know how crits work

but yeah, i decided to test it as in pvp quicker weapons are just better, and i noticed my greatsword was doing very minimal damage, despite stat wise being literally the best greatsword in terms of damage, and being able to apply ash of wars. with a flame build my AR with the great sword is 876 compared to magma blades AR of 727.

even sadder dual wielding two magma blades at +10 blows like every greatsword and some colossal weapons out the water with 1000+ damage and this is at SL 224 where people should be rather speced in vigor or armor, while the great sword still does like 500 damage per light swing and i only even hit 900 on a fully charged heavy swing. (the dual magmas hit near 1700 in PVP with a fully charged heavy.

also worth noting the test was on PVE enemies unless stated otherwise.

It depends on stat scaling: both are strenght-dex-faith weapons, the Magma blade has C, D, C, the Iron Greatsword D, E, C. The better scaling becomes more relevant at higher RLs, with better values in the relevant stats, so it is possible for a traight sword to outperform a greatsword. In my case (RL 547), the blaspehmous blade outperforms all colossal swords without a triple scaling.

it realy depends on enemy you face . some are resitant to fire and having no armor so ofcourse it feels like heavy infusion with with 60 str is best choice on iron greatsword as example but realy depedns on stats also

i honestly doesnt reach such high level on any characters but it feels like irongreatsword (colosal greatsword) favors rather from physical infusions cuz you can aply powerfull buffs on it . i can imagine quality infusion would be very powerfull with 40 str,dex

ill test it and get back to you. this might be a AR and damage test forum. i know in DS3 heavy weapon with a weapon buff gave the best damage and even higher levels quality made them WAY stronger. in elden ring they kinda remade most of that. but yeah ill test it and see whats up. I DO know that quality on it with lightning enchantment and a lightning/incantation charm build only net me around 800AR which with the fire build and no buffs and the right charms, is what it currently sits at in base mode (no buffs) but with flame grant me strength and flame strikes active buff, its around 1100 AR and does hit over 1000 damage...but base AR or actual damage numbers is what we want because we all know AR doesnt = damage.

Put your stats, weapons etc in the values. Fiddle around and test to see.

Thank you for the link.
This helped me to realize that the game need more balancing.
Bloodhand’s Fang currently does almost the same damage as collossal grafted sword.

Collossal weapons and swords should be visibly stronger than lighter, quicker weapons, that swing faster, require less stats and use less stamina.

Wow. That’s really nice. I just spent 10 minutes playing around with it.

If I’m using this correctly, Grafted Blade Greatsword is the best weapon for a 40/40 quality build? Omitting int, faith, and arcane weapons. And of course ashes of war.
