ELDEN RING

ELDEN RING

Did people actually quit after first encountering Tree Sentinel?
I keep seeing people who say Elden Ring sucks because its "too hard" and specifically that impossible golden guy on a horse is what made them refund or drop the game immediately (Mostly youtube and reddit)

Why? Are people these days really just that stupid or impatient? It is so damn obvious that you aren't supposed to fight it at first unless you're a skilled dark souls vet. Hell even Margit the Fell is easier than Tree Sentinel

Elden Ring was the first souls game I played and the only real trouble I had was the black blade kindred. But even then, after the 20th time I learned I could just cheese him by hopping around the mausoleum balconies/steps and casting lightning bolt

Yes. They are.

The idea that you can go around it or that basically you need to find out where you can go and what you can beat is too oldschool and a subsection of people just run against a wall in that regard. Self-guided exploration? Oh my god...

I think this is meme, same as Godrick Soldier in tutorial cave.

Literally no one did. It's painfully obvious you are suppose to avoid him til you are strong enough.
Ok but its such a ♥♥♥♥ move, no? There must have been so many people that had Elden Ring as their first souls-like and probably never even thought of "if the enemy is too difficult, i can just skip it" and instead thought "elden ring is supposed to be hard, makes sense"

Like I saw a lot of people playing dark souls 1, going to the graveyard first and dying to the skeletons over and over, thinking it was the right path because "dark souls is supposed to be hard"

Developer-intended ♥♥♥♥ moves are what made souls games popular imo

Eh... I can sort of see the point. But that's the thing, right? Before you used to be locked in by fog gates, but you no longer are. Devs needed to get the point across. The whole world is right there, going in every direction. Just pick any other side of the world that isn't containing a large golden symbol of masculinity itself and you're good to go.
I heard people used to quit because of Iudex Gundyr too.

Funnily enough - you can still overpower the treeman, you just... Need to not take any damage. At all.
Also he becomes like 3 times easier on Horseback. Its somewhat of a general rule in this game: enemies that are on horse are easier to be fought on horse too. Usually.
Greetings, OP.

Ok, lets see your main sources of feedback about the golden BoY

Urgh.....Reddit is where common sense and decency dies, OP. You will find better information here in the Elden Ring forums......At least you know who actually owns the game before taking to consideration what they posted.

The tree sentinel is there to bully new players and teach them one of Elden Ring most valuable lessons! Going elsewhere if you actually cant kill certain boss, leveling up, looting more <Everything> and becoming more experienced with the game.

Now i can see people being filtered by Varre himself.....In fact there is a serious Youtuber review about a dude "emoquiting" and giving Elden Ring a below zero score, because Varre corpse camped him. So im not surprised at all if hundreds or even thousands gave up without understanding there was something out of place in the big picture......Them with low level and not a clue about the game.
Yeah because, Man...if that's the first guy I see when I start the game, and I can't beat him, that tells me the game is unfair. I bought the DLC hoping it would start me somewhere else where that horse guy didn't kill me for 8 hours straight, but apparently you have to go way further than the horse guy to even get to the DLC. More money thrown away. I really wanted to like this game, you know?

Not much point to fighting him really. Low souls, weapon isnt that good and cant use it for a long time.

Many attacks in DS3 reskinned...er, sorry, vanilla ring...are ridiculous though. Such as when you get a crucible knight to 25% health and they start spamming a 650 damage (i can see the files..its like 400-500 physical and 140 holy) blink-grab. Or the shield smashes from knights that do more damage than their weapons.
Nerfed the former. Suddenly they waste a lot less time...
Or the..how many decades old is this now...camera issues. Specifically with lesser drakes and the golems. Drakes have a massively damaging forward foot stomp that dead angles you if youre locked onto his head. Golems are cool but since the camera is awful you dont even get to see the whole enemy...a constant issue. Dragons dogma 1 (the only one...) figured this sht out, why cant you?

Typically for him just come back later, if at all.

its not a *bad* game...but it is very much overpraised and the usual screeching fanatics are out in force at the slightest criticism. There are people who scream "git gud" at a guy who said he didnt like how the character creator is set up. (its sht btw).

Or "You know that there are several bosses who spend most of their time with their bodies 60% out of the arena, yes?"
"GIT GUD"
"mmk."
"You know that those roots and gravestones and the fact that torrent has inertia while enemies dont is jsut there to extend your playtime with the 'jumping puzzles', right?"
"NUH UH!"

More people have raged out over Margit than Sentinel hands down. The game points you to Margit right at the start of Limgrave.

i could tell right when i first saw him after the tutorial area that i was no where near being able to beat him at that level.
i mean just look at him , golden armor for him and his horse let alone his size standing tall in the saddle.
it was just obvious and logical to avoid him at that time.
still havent beat him myself but im still learning the mechanics , never played something like this before

I know someone who burned out on Tree Sentinel. When I asked why he didn't move on, he said he thought that's what he was supposed to do and he "knew these games were meant to be tough." He ended up returning and enjoying the game but that experience was a very poor first impression for him. He is not a stupid man.
You people run your mouths too much.

This.

And on top of that, the most important decision and actual GOOD game design:

YOU CAN KILL HIM, if you know what you're doing or just try hard.
