Elden Ring is overrated and bad

Once you start the game, you choose between several classes which you know nothing about. You have to select a starting item out of a list of item that you don't know, and the game starts. You see a bunch of ghosts and weird messages that you don't understand, and wonder around until you start fighting some monster that kills you in 3 seconds and starts a cutscene where you're somewhere else.

At this point you are completely confused. The moment the monster hits you the screen freezes for a tenth of a second and turns black. There's no cutscene explaining what happened, no message on the screen, and the cutscene that shows this woman on the horse doesn't explain anything and like every other cutscene/dialog includes nothing but fantasy gibberish.

It gets even worse, because in my playthrough I just ran through the giant door that caught my attention, but it turned out after 3 restarts that this giant hole in the ground is something I should jump into for a tutorial.

Quests
The quests in this game are awful. Not "bad", not "lacking", not "limited", they are awful. Here's an average quest in Elden ring:

You meet a guy called X

X tells you to go to Y and talk to someone/kill a bunch of enemies

You go to Y and do that

X says thank you

Most of the times the quest is completely unrelated to the main plot and very forgettable, but another issue is that there is no quest menu.

Having no quest menu is not a "design choice" that makes the game "more challenging", and including a quests menu is not "spoon-feeding", it's a basic thing that an open world game should have. The alternatives are writing down all the names and locations of all the people you've met in a notebook, or googling. If you have to do either - your game is not a 10.

The quests are comparable to what you'd see in 1st generation Pokemon games on GameBoy, not a modern state of the art video game.

Fallout NV for example is a masterpiece that has a quests menu. Did anyone ever complain about it? Did it ruin the game? No, it just organized knowledge for you instead of forcing you to remember 45 forgettable characters.

Fallout NV was a masterpiece. ER is a masterpiece. Tons of games cannot be considered that. Fallout and ER are not the same genre of game as Ironwu correctly pointed out. Deal with all of that.

Which is why comparatively New Vegas is a masterpiece. Just like Outer Worlds. Skyrim. Gothic 3. Divinity 1 and 2. Every Baldur's Gate game including the Dark Alliance games that are better than Elden Ring.

I can think of 100 games that are masterpieces in comparison to the downright bad game Elden Ring is.

It's a massive regression in terms of game design. I've had more fun playing tech demos.

Like I said objectively. Enemies reacting to inputs is akin to quick time events, which are objectively bad game design. Especially when overused.

The camera; broken.

The bosses: garbage. The end boss is objectively nonsense.

Shall I go on? You can try to use rhetoric to dismiss the huge flaws ER objectively has. Like the fact you goofballs can't even admit the camera is broken.

Putting Gothic 3 in the same level of Skyrim or the BG games is kind of daring. Putting it on the level of the Divinity games if you mean the OS games is far more accurate.
