Erdtree Greatshield VS Dragon claw Shield. Wielding Blashphemous Blade and Dragon Claw Shield.

I just got the Erdtree Greatshield after hearing it's one of the best. I ran into the enemies by accident trying to get Ghost Glovewort and killed the 2 guarding the shield. I'd need to spec 2 more into Strength to be able to use the Erdtree. I'm only high enough for Dragon Claw Shield from amulets.
Should I invest in Strength to wield the Erdtree? I hear it's reflect ability is good.

Definitely, Erdtree Shield is a really good counter for spell casters, specially spammers, its AOW also scales with upgrades so no need to invest in stats past the requirements.

And the Projectile hits quite hard.

Its also a HARD counter to Stars of Ruin.

The Erdtree Shield has an Ash of War on it so you won't be able to use the Blasphemous Blade's weapon skill which is the only reason to use that sword. Same problem with Dragon Claw Shield, so neither is any good with that blade. I use either the Fingerprint Shield or the Haligtree Crest Shield with the Blasphemous Blade since neither comes with a skill already on it.

Erdtree Shield has low Guard Boost for a Greatshield (60 base, iirc) so keep in mind you can't stonewall with it against heavier physical assaults. Absolutely savage to counter casters with, very general purpose shield.

2 points of Str is a pretty small investment tbh, it's a fun shield.

Thanks for the responses! I just wanted to make sure I didn't invest in something that's inferior in every way. But glad to see there's utility like I thought.

I have shield in one Left Handed slot, and talisman in the other Left Handed slot.
If I want to use the Blasphemous Blade's skill, I either 2H, or more likely switch to Talisman which allows me to use the special. 2H key is hold E and press Left Mouse, or Right Mouse. I don't like that since I keep pressing the left quick slot item. I'd like to be able to reconfigure some keys, but the game doesn't allow me. I make due tho.


I have a 12 side button mouse, so I use the 12th button (which is the - key) for dodging since it's easier to press faster than the space bar I use for jumping in most games. But since that doesn't let me reconfigure, shift is the dodge for me.
