ELDEN RING
I'm a sorc wearing heavy armor.....
What is the point of light armor in this game? Sorc builds need a ton of endurance to be effective, which is fine, but then it also allows me to equip the heaviest armor in the game.

So my question is, what is the point of light armor when everyone will eventually be rocken heavy armor, not due to building into it on purpose, but as a side effect of lvling a stat that is required to play for all builds. I just don't get it. I want to wear the robes and stuff for sorc, but why would I? If i get invaded, light armor does nothing for me, so of course I am going to wear the heaviest I can equip. There is no downside for me a sorc build if I wear the heaviest sets.

Why does light armor even exist?

yet at the same time light weight armors have low phys resists but higher magic resists, which is all i was pointing out. I wasn't addressing total equipment load, just the weight of the armor items and what their defensive values tend to be.

Problem is that's how things were in a different game, not Elden Ring. Their defensive magical values are pretty much the same this time around. It's the physical resistance and poise that vary, which is what i was remarking on.

In fact, one of the heaviest armors, Radahn's set, also has some of the highest magic resistances out of all armors. The same goes for the Bull Goat armor, the Tree Sentinel armor, and even the Veteran's armor, all extremely heavy sets.

Sort by Physical and scroll down and you'll find the heaviest armors have the same or better magical resistances as the light armors.
I did level high( that's how I like to play) but I never touched the str stat. For someone who doesn't touch str, why can I wear heavy armor? This is what I don't like. Tank types should be stomping around in heavy armor due to str. Just took me out of the game when I realized that light armor was useless outside of fashionsouls. I shouldn't be able to wear the sets I wear IMO.

In DS2, the heavier armour sets did actually require STR to wear. On the opposite end, light armour designed for casters gave small stacking bonuses, like +5% magic damage, or an extra spell slot, to encourage them towards it.

As for why it's not in ER, maybe it's to increase overall accessibility?
I kind of feel like all armor is hair splitting. So, as mentioned previously, fashion.
I also think heavier armors have slower stamina regen
You can definitely wear heavy armor as a mage, just you'll be fat rolling. I'm not sure if the extra defense given by wearing heavy armor mitigates the need to roll but I rather be quick on my feet to dodge than tank a hit.

Mages typically stay far away and bust their enemies down with high DPS and are able to run away quickly if the heat gets too close making the need for heavy armor not necessary.
always reminds me the duel between bronn and vale captain knight vardis egen from game of thrones, speed and endurance always >> high defence, the dude in heavy armor tires quickly and dies its the same logic actually your regen will be a lot slower in heavy armor compared to light one
