No, i love Elden Ring open world.
Goodbye OP and thanks for a fresh.....Take.
if you find it bland you find it bland, it happens, not every game will suit everyone.
for me, elden ring is their best souls-game to date, i personally hope they make another open world game in the future.
if it helps: even though this may have the most repeated bosses and mini-dungeons, it also has more unique bosses and dungeons then any other souls-game as well.
Definitely hope they stick to the open world formula. Excited to see what Miyazaki has thought up next for the FromSoft team to create.
Having said that, this game is one of the all time classics/greats, and so far, FS's magnum opus. Its take on a Souls open world is a breath of fresh air compared to standard "Ubisoft"-like worlds. It mixes self-guided "exploration by sight", which is Bethesda-esque in a good way, with Souls content, it is the most polished version of Souls gameplay yet, it has an insane variety of items, builds and playstyles, and it gives you hundreds of hours of play for the price of the base game plus one considerable DLC, if you want more. Its legacy dungeons combined are probably larger than individual earlier titles, if that's your main "poison".
Weapon choice however has been greater than ever. We have many vanilla classics making a return, but also ER has lots of unique weapons for every class. Notably Faith chads received a great arsenal of beautiful and stylish weapons to use, allowing them to truly embrace the inner paladin. We even have Twinblades making a return, so that's a whole extra weapon class.
As far as gameplay features and choice of arsenal - ER is great, on par with its' brothers.
Its mostly the open world that had greatly changed the vibe of the game - you constantly doubt where you are going, constantly have to make calls to turn left and not right, yadi yada...
I can get why the dungeons might bug you - outside of legacy dungeons, a lot of them follow a distinct pattern. You can expect annoying enemies and traps from every catacombs, for example, but the specifics differ with each one, and I get why that could be considered repetitive.
Speaking personally, playing ER makes me want to go back and play the Souls games sometimes. My favorite parts of the game have been the legacy dungeons, so a more linear experience like what's described sounds delightful.
I think if Torrent were more part of the story with you then maybe it would of worked more for me.
I still enjoy it more than souls and bloodborne though because the positives are just that good. Builds are way more fun and customizable. Bosses are a mixed bag but the good bosses are significantly better than the good bosses of previous games. The freedom also makes replaying it more fun
But I do hope they either stop making open world games or heavily reduce it's scope to be able to have more quality content and less meh content in the future.
It's just a bad game and for this reason I didn't even play the DLC yet despite having bought it.
I've got news for you man, you just don't like RPGs.
