They're wrong, it's a great game. DS1 has just as much jank and is smeared with poopy nostalgia atm, I feel like the elitists gravitate around it and DS3 to just stick their noses at something different. Seriously, DS2 may be "floaty" at the start, but figure out ADP and the different stats, you'll be fine.
(Elden ring is closer to DS2 than DS3 or DS1, ngl)
Meh, the OG's one of my favorites... the remaster is fine, but I'm smearing poopy nostalgia on it. The asylum is my favorite area in any Souls game...
But it's definitely not the best in the series, in terms of polish.
I think the dark souls franchise just does everything better and by the time you finish elden ring you'll probably be satisfied with this type of game. I don't think it's worth playing at this point unless you really just want to play all of them.
I finished it once and never wanted to play again, I'd rather just replay dark souls or bloodborne.
Otherwise, Legend of Grimrock is a recommendation if you don't mind party systems.
...and then it turns out it was like the best metroidvania ever so they had a point after all
