Co-op & Invasions Elden Ring vs. DS3
I don't care if it is the 100st time you've read this, but I just have to get it off my chest.

I am missing the DS3 multiplayer so much!

It feels like in Elden Ring Co-op is a pure boss fight repetition generator 95% of the time, while in DS3, situations helping a player through an area with the boss fight just as a peak-end happened so much more often.

As an invader in Elden Ring you get matched in a 3 vs 1 most of the time with stronger disadvantage letting little chance for fair/fashion/themed/atmospheric-builds, suggesting min-max power-gamer builds as the way to go: boring! In DS3 e.g you could stalk a single player way better and have interesting face-offs. Plus as a defending player using a seed turning the environment hostile on an unassuming invader was so much fun (I know in theroy it sort of exists in ER, but just way worse).

I really miss a better co-operative and invading gaming experience, when we were already at a higher quality of it in the past. Maybe it's just my preference...please convince me otherwise or join in on the nostalgia : )

PS.: not hating on the game, I love it. I just think in this aspect it is far behind old achievements.

"Miyazaki said. "In terms of where we were with Elden Ring, it was simply a case of wanting that more loose, casual style -- drop in, defeat a boss, drop out. It doesn't put any technical restrictions on the player, it just sort of lets them complete this focus and then move on, so to speak.""

So yes, the vanilla "ER co-op is a pure boss fight repetition generator".

You're playing a dedicated build optimized for PvP. The host isn't. That's why it's a gank, to make things more fair. Don't like it? Just play the arena.

Killing players / being a player killer is going out of fashion?

I know how you feel.

Its a rare thing to be summoned at the beginning of a area. But dang it if its not great when it does work.

I think a lot of that has to do with how summons in general work. You can use summoning pools, but you're almost better off just going to where you want to invade/coop and go old school with your sign down in a heavy traffic area.

Happy hunting :praisesun:

@thoughnails: No I am not. That is my point. I personally e.g. always wear the Furled Finger's Trick-Mirror for fashion in multiplayer, because I hate the neon-look of summons and want to blend into the world of the host better. Don't care about lost buff-potential. But I agree that in general, this is the true: People do tryhard optimize for the win(rate). So yes, as a protection disadvantage makes sense. In ER, it just feels like to the point where only the powergamer tryhard has a chance at all.

@VanDerSol, indeed I think it is the donwside of the larger open world. The summon sign causes waiting time. The pooled summoning get's you called to the points where people struggle the most: harder boss fights.

@IchigoMait: Thanks for the link. Works as intended. The intention is just not to my liking : ) Maybe because DS3 for me personally was a revelation offering unmatched longevity with interesting options in multiplayer. ER feels like repetition in that aspect or skewed for players that tend to play fair.

@Phobos: I was only like max 30% playerkiller in DS3 and 70% supporter. In ER the most fun co-oping I've had, is with a rel. low level (30 max) Support Archer, getting a good amount of Stromveil Castle...
