(shadow of erdtree dlc) help with igon questline

a friend of mine told me about igon and his questline after i asked if she fought bayle. i accidentally skipped over him since i got to the dragon's pit by climbing up the side of the mountain instead of going up normally through the bridge and made my way through the area and up to bayle. i went to the area where you're supposed to find him first in game, but he's completely gone and he doesn't show up in other areas he's supposed to pop up in as well. did i break the questline? is there no way to fix it or get him to show up?
