Why do people seem to hate the concept of Invasions now?
Don't get me wrong, this isn't a post lamenting about "host had 2 people with him, what the hell" or "that dude used that op spell/ ash of war, I hate this" as ganking has always been a risk Invaders had to put up with and op cancer is a thing in all of these games but only with Elden Ring have I seen people just hate the very concept of invasions, or act like it's some bs that they can't opt out of (you can).

Is it because Elden Ring more so than previous games have these OP moves and dealing with them in pvp is worse than it's ever been? I've dealt with annoying invasions all the way back to the scrapping spear in demon souls but is it just considered worse here?

Do people hate the idea of having a trade off to something that makes the game easier? (Use a spirit summon and you lose a chunk of fp/ health, use bigger weapons or spells and use more Stamina or FP, use summons and risk the chance of invasions). The multiplayer in these games have always been a catch all of co-op and pvp but suddenly people hate the idea they can't just go through the game with summons without risking invasions/ the thing to balance the reduced difficulty?

I also think saying "want pvp go to coliseum" is disingenuous at best, as it's meant to provide a different pvp experience.

PVP content for fromsoft games have always been a huge part of the community and I doubt people in dark souls 1 were doing invasions for the awesome stopping power of the dark hand/dark sword or people in 3 were doing it for the great power of great deep soul or wolf knights curved sword.

Yes, all true. I doubt people in ds1 or 3 were only invading for these covenant rewards.
The thing is, those weren't supposed to be your reward. They were supposed to be your introduction to pvp.
The covenants and their rewards gave most people a reason to try pvp semi-seriously for the first time and from there they could develop a taste (or distaste) for it.

That is completely missing from Elden Ring and to make it worse, Elden Ring had a large influx of new players who never engaged with a souls game before.
Why would they even try PvP? To them an invader is just a nuisance that showed up to annoy them. The switch to "hey, maybe pvp can be fun" never comes because there's no trigger for it.

Try looking at it, not as someone who has done invasions in all souls games and enjoys them, but as someone new to souls games, who has never done PvP in a game similar to this, and consider what kind of impression Elden Ring gives them of invasions.

THAT'S where all the hate for concept of invasion comes from.

imo it's because invasions only happen to coop players unless you taunter tongue

by marginalizing invasions so much they almost become something that is not part of the game, so when people do get invaded they just dont want any of that

i play solo outside of the seamless coop mod, didnt get invaded once and i didnt even know why until i asked how tf invasions in er work, and it's just stupid

Dude idk. Even offline you get invaded multiple times by npcs. Its meant to be a part of the game. The host always has the upper hand most times anyways.
vamirez Jul 20, 2024 @ 6:05am
No. Ppl already hated invasions in 2011.

It's because invasions now target the softer crowd...

From has always made invasions for people with advantage...but before it was more for people with more consumables and were more knowledgeable about the game...

Now trying to get your friends to take out half a dungeon for you gets you smacked

On their first play-through I can understand why they hate it more because they are trying to figure stuff out or find a grace or whatever, but with some experience its really not that big of a deal. You really don't lose anything by getting killed by an invader anyways except maybe some pride. There are plenty of blue hunters willing to help out anyways.

Because they're huge wimps who were hoping to get carried by over leveled phantoms. Getting dumpstered by invaders shatters that assumption so they get mad and act entitled.

Well like I've said there's always been stinkers as far as invaders go but not everyone who invades you is some no-life twink abusing the worst aspects of the game to kill you, don't throw the baby out with the bath water y'know?

ER took steps to make invasions more host friendly but somehow the public opinion of it is worse than it's ever been

what? it been hated since ancient times, example there are farming area on MMORPG that allow you doing PK, people that has high level gear and skill would do noob hunting just for fun. same as invading, they doing it for fun, while other trying do they need to do.

Elden Ring has the most sales out of any From Software release, this brings a lot of new players to one unified experience and this is also the Souls game with the highest skill ceiling. Ash of wars, jumping, physicks and extra features have upped the entry bar by quite a lot compared to what PVP could have looked like in older Souls.

When you compare more complex gameplay with a new audience, you'll get a lot of people who will most definitely be crushed in any encounter as they've yet to grasp the basics of the playing field.

Part of it can be ignorance too. I think a majority miss out on the mechanics of summoning pools and place their stuff around willy and nilly, almost guaranteeing they don't have enough time to enter a boss arena before being invaded.

Nah, not everyone. In my experience over three DS games - its just most of them.

Literally this. Yet the community managed to silence this general consensus since the early games.

There's a reason about 10% of the actual players do invasions. What if baffles me, is how that 10% manages to ruin the other 90%.

The game is balanced on coop. That's why bosses have usually long animation and never ending combos. Because it's balanced and optimised with either coop players or solo player + summon. When you take turns in hitting the boss and splitting the aggro the broken, long combos are not as bad then. It's stil ldemanding as bosses gets stronger in coop, but at least not as frustrating.

Ah man when you say it like that it sound like the new players who's first experience is Elden Ring has a lot to do with this, which I guess kinda answers my question/ explains a lot.

IDK, i tried to invade like 3-4 times and each time i got completely mauled by the host and another player whenever i tried to do the slightest something on them. It's completely useless invading. No fun.

disagree about the game being balanced on coop and it makes no sense to punish those who enjoy coop with a 3rd party random guy who's objective is to ♥♥♥♥ up your gameplay, simply makes no sense

i personally would like more if invasions simply happened, no distinctions, as it stands i am experiencing random organinc invasions only when i play the coop mod, which also does coop better than the base game

they simply fumbled the bag on the multiplayer aspect with elden ring imo
