build variety
why is it nonexistent in this game's PvP scene? Give me your thoughts.

Because if you do not follow the meta, you will lose 99% of your pvp matches. Simple.

It's really diverse, the players just don't like to use anything they don't see as optimal under a non-spam playstyle

Like the other way around but sure
The worst metaslaves are that, the worst

Coz you need a braincell to use different none meta builds and everyone is to lazy to do anything but listen to you tubers and Reddit.

There is build variety. You can take sharp/lightning Backhand blades for Dex, Blood or occult Backhand blades for Arc, Frost/Magic Backhand blades for Int, Heavy Backhand blades for str etc... On a more serious note, sad truth is that unless you are an ultra-gud sweatlord with 0.001 nanosecond reflexes and positioning avareness of a Shaolin monk (that also knows every moveset and aow in the game and how to counter them), you simply will stand no chance against op wepon on an optimized build. If you are tho, there IS build variety. I honestly hate arena and love invasions for memes and fast rune arcs

people want to win, so they bring the most broken build you could ever find.

isn't that mindset what propagates the idea that you'll lose if you're not abusing the most effective tactics available?
also why does winning matter? sure it's nice, but I'm here to duel - not necessarily win, just have fun.

I would love invasions if I could open myself up to them w/out summoning or using the tongue.

for the same reason there is best builds in every video game: there are builds that objectively just work better, and people use them to win more often.

what do you mean? I always see different builds. I was just rocking a complete dragon communion one with the new dragon forms we get in the DLC too

might be level/weapon level, but I have seen the same dex/faith build (different weapons sure) but exact same overall setup, throughout the entire game. the very few folks I see with unique builds I usually do have a good time with.

my question is why? winning a duel in a videogame takes that much out of them?

i have no idea what "takes that much out of them" means in this context, but i don't really get why you're confused, winning is fun by and large to a vast majority of people, why would they not try to win?

lvl 150, 200, 300 and max lvl seem to be the ones with most variety. Hard to mix and match when you don't have the stats.
Max lvl is as easy as lvl 120 or 90 to find people too, I take a lot used cheat engine to get there but it's full of players

because focusing on "winning" makes anything that isn't "Winning" not fun. Just enjoying yourself is fine, but seeing folks act like a win against a stranger in an online game means anything is kind of depressing.
