In order to get invaded by him near the Church of the Bud you have to "help" him killing Messmer (summoning him mid fight) and exhaust his dialogue in Shadow keep Dark chamber. After that he will leave you alone even during Leda fight, but after dealing with Miquella and Radhan he will attempt to kill you.....

Not summoning him to kill Messmer will give Leda another team mate for the Miquella army of simps encounter.

Have fun and take a look to his loot! Also engage him where i killed him or the red pests near will murder you.

Hmmm that never happened to me. Mainly if you dont talk to him at all after/before Miiquella rune explodes breaking the charm? He becomes hellbent on killing Messmer and i always murder him after Romina.....so dunno.

This was my fourth clear will try ignoring him and going for Romina before Messmer in next one!

If you summon Hornsent for Messmer fight and then talk to him after the fight and exhaust all his dialogue in mesmers boss room the NPC invasion in Ancient Ruins of Rauh is now enabled.

After talking to him enough your pretty much reach a verbal agreement about killing Messmer together. In the previous clear i didnt summoned any NPC during Messmer fight and after it Hornsent was there in the dark chamber crying and whimpering about how miserably he failed avenging his people......even says he need a new target for his swords. Thats how he joins Leda.

I guess if you completly ignore him as said above he will pick you as main target, after all he literally hates everyone. Considering you have to reach Shadow keep wich means Miquella rune and charm breaking and the only thing between you and Romina is the holy hypo, a lot of mutant jars, fire knights and spectres......well you can kill Romina as the third expansion boss if you want, in fact i nearly went that way first clear.....

Sure, you can kill Romina first if you find elevator before going upstairs in the shadowkeep storehouse (or whatever it was called) and decide to follow that way, in fact, after killing Messmer I had no clue where I have to go, it was a dead end. I am only saying that Hornsent is waiting for you on those stairs after killing Messmer and that's why he does not join Leda and her allies.

If you talk to him after Miquella rune breaks yeah, he will ask you for help to kill Messmer. Then you can summon him (summon sign inside) during Messmer fight.

After the fight he will stay in Messmer dark chamber rambling about killing more people (if you summoned him) but will leave you alone until you kill Radhan and what i posted above happens.
