Just started the DLC, Black Gaol Knight...
Took me 2 tries, he wasn't hard, to say, all I had to do was run around his crossbow and slam him every time he brought it out, only killed me the first time because I didnt expect his Weapon Art to have a follow up lol. But... are all DLC bosses so tanky? Dude took like 7 minutes to whittle down. I dont have any Scadutree things yet, but this guy seemed like a tutorial so I assume I wouldnt need any

With just the 1st Blessing you would have done about 9% more damage while having 9% increased defense stats

Without leveling Scadutree Blessing they are.
After you level few it will be much better.

Around level 10 DLC feels like standard Elden Ring difficuty.
Well at least up to final boss.

The DLC's damage levels are heavily balanced around having fragment levels. I thought of Blackgaol Knight as being like Margit; his purpose is to remind you to explore and get stronger if you're having trouble.

Well, it seems it time to go exploring. Luckily I have no choice but to explore, given I have no idea where I’m going anyways.

Yes, quite a lot of HP so it takes time to kill, while two hits often in one combo equals death. Also boss like Rellana probably should suffer from knockdown like Rennala, Malenia or Gideon, but it ain't happening. Also it feels like a lot of attacks punish panic roll.

Tbh you played super safe and punished only one of his openings

But yeah dlc healthbars are comparable to end game bosses, and that guy probably has good defence too considering his armor

It's not going to take you long to figure out where to go once you grab the map fragment.

Just got 2 scadutree fragments, so that should help, I think

Agreed, kinda. I still see three different points of interest the game might want me to go, so obviously I need to go everywhere else first

True. I’m always very cautious of NPC bosses/invaders because I’m always scared they secretly have something to parry me with, I fight them far more cautiously than any other boss type

Carry flail with you in case you encounter parry lord.
Chainlink if you're strength character or Nightrider if you're dex.

Flails can't be parried. I love to abuse NPC guy before Rennala with it.
Very satisfying.

I suppose strength character could also use colossal weapons,
but they are too slow for my liking...

Equip fire resistance talisman, fire resistance spell as well if possible.
Jump to avoid fire stomps. He is not too tough, you'll get it.

This advice helped a lot. Those stomps did not look jumpable, but it took a single try jumping them
