That was the exact thing. You kill all of them except for them. That left an unanswered thread at the time, which led to eventual DLC content.
My thoughts are that they could expand on a few things here in the same manner. The gloam eyed queen, the events in nokron, the sealed rot god, the cosmic entities that may or may not be related to the greater will, etc. . . There is a lot of potential here.
For this dlc, as someone mention before there was no real dlc planned. From the overall balance and pacing it’s just more ER for better or worse. The main game already takes close to 80 hours to finish, this adds close to 30-40 hours more content.
DS1 sends you back to Oolacile.
DS2 uses the Giant Memories.
DS3 has Untended Graves. It also sends you forward in time during Ringed City.
Elden Ring could easily do the same - start a story at an earlier point in the game's history.
Perhaps during the Dragon or Giant Wars.
Maybe during Marika's quest to ascend to godhood.
There's the whole Velka Gloam-Eyed Queen mystery to resolve.
While Formless Mother, Frenzied Flame, and Goddess of Rot are present in Elden Ring, there are supposedly other Outer Gods that left long before the present. The Twinbird, Storm God, and Dragon God could be introduced at a time when they were still present and relevant.
