COmmander gaius is a use case of terrible boss design. As a caster even with decent endurance and dexterity high Intell and Faith for my buffs, he is obscenely aggressive. I had to cheese glitch him to win. otherwise while I can get him past phase 2 to around 20-30% health roughly, his aggressive and turn on a dime smashes, are stupid and absurd leaving me with almost no time to get off spells even with Terra magica. I am constantly needing to roll out his way, and high jump and just tanks my stamina meter. Mind you I was 16 scadutree and my summon was lvl 10 ashes mimic tear +10 and even then It was absurd crapfest dealing with him. We can say git gud, it doesn't address the nature of his move sets and his hyper aggressive behavior he has been coded with. Just a bad boss engagment.

Not all bosses are going to be snooze fest with a caster build though.
Just as not all bosses are going to be easy as an Unga Bunga or Jumping curved swords.

He's pretty easy if you're at close range, hardest thing to keep an eye out is his charge attack. Mfer can suddenly go charge from just about any other attack he has. xD

I actually realized that for some idiotic reason Gaius is immune to dmg at the start of the fight when I was playing with my mage and trying to shot him with Loretta’s Mastery.

Even had Carian Phalanx and they just went through him.

That's the entirety of the DLC, unfortunately. Gaius is just an extra cancerous case.

Curiouser and curiouser, kinda good to know about that actually. Since i'm melee all the time I just dodge and he's stopped by the time the roll ends xD

he is actually a really good boss and well designed. I solo commander gaius for people on co-op and more often than not I'll see the host and co summoner not respect his moveset at all and just try to brute force the boss. I assume like 90% of people approach this boss by just brute forcing it instead of learning his moveset, based on what i've seen in co-op

i will even see people try to ash of war spam him in middle of his combo and then get butchered right after and then they'll go here or on reddit crying how he is an unfair boss

Just learn to dodge his charge and combo...if your dieing to one off lance shots and tusk throws find a new game

I don't know what's terrible about him? With the right build I beat him on the first try. Have you ever thought that it's not the boss that's the problem, but maybe your build/gameplay?

Level 16 Scadu and 10 mimic..idk how OP got this far

I think people need to stop summoning in others to beat the game for them
