ELDEN RING
Is Miyazaki ever going back to good game design?
Like, Dark Souls 1 levels of tight cohesive world that still has plenty of options in terms of how you can tackle it? Or BloodBorne/DS3? (DS2 was trash).

I truly hope ER is the last of giant open world filled with nothing, ripe for being overleveled nonsense design. This wasn't it chiefs.

instead of whining like a beggar and assuming you know better than the game designer, maybe do something for yourself? You are literally just a consumer.

Only Dark Souls 1 had this though

DS1 level design is some of the best, if not the best world ever designed in gaming. I don't think the developers truly understand why that resonated with us the way it did. I'd say even us fans have trouble articulating it.
Few people realize it, but Dark Souls 1 was the last game Miyazaki solo directed for From Software before turning president. He then solo directed Bloodborne for Sony, which obviously works with its own set of restrictions. All other games after Bloodborne had co-directors which probably accumulated much more responsibility than we think, and Miyazaki credit is more a name usage since he is so famous and and his name sells. Also interesting clue, is that in interviews Miyazaki makes it clear he does not like a supervisor role (which I believe is more correct than "director" for all games after Bloodborne).

We need a smaller, non open world, solo Miyazaki directed game again in From Software. Huge bonus if by this time they can also publish in the west and get rid of sh*t publishers.

Sorry but it was GOTY at some point so fromsoft fanboiz will never understand it doesn't mean its not automatically the best one and thus the previous DS serie and bloodborne and all those non GOTY are just worst.
Then go back to DS1 design. 2 ring slot, four-directional rolling. kindle in every bonefire to get flask. Unable to teleport until mid of game.

don't be unnecessarily obtuse, its clear op is referring to level design

DS2 has better dlcs than Elden Ring btw.
Better map design/ tight experience/ creative exploration, right length.
Many people shoot down DS2 cuz they only play the base game.
I honestly enjoyed base Dks2 with every DLC the most out of them all. Granted, it got a lot of flaws, like SM and plenty of other questionable decisions, but the pvp in Dks2 was excellent. On top of that, it got my favorite weapon in every soulslike they ever made. The one and only Smelter Hammer. I kinda got it back in ER with the DLC, but it's missing the super spin2win and the running knee bonk in its running attack.

It's a shame that weapon just won't come back... I truly loved that huge iron drumstick.
DS 2>>>>>>>DS 3

All the newbs love DS 3

If sote just copy ds2 dlc level design in main legacy dungeon, the game will be even better than now. The real problem of ds2 is game engine. Sony has improved FS's engine a lot during bloodborne development. But saldy DS2 don't catch the chance.

People just unfairly shot down ds2 for stupid reasons.

Glad after time passed, ppl have taken off their ds1 nostalgia goggles.

I also hope for a return to the well-planned, interconnected world of the Dark Souls games. That was where the magic was.
Only Dark Souls 1 had this though
Yeah, DS1 was the best in that way... but I think the others still tried to use some of that, where Elden Ring completely abandons it for the open map. But, a DS4 with a more massive world with that DS1 style of interconnected world would be so great.

Nah, the real reason DS3 was so played and replayed and still is today is because it's solid as a rock. Beautiful, not too big, not too short (good for challenge runs and replaying multiple characters), PvP is the most situational varied, with action in all level ranges and 1v1 up to consistent 4v2.

DS2 is too ugly and too big for consistent replaying, the in world PvP is seriously compromised by design decisions. The only thing in favor of DS2 is maybe arena 1v1s (if you like it's very "tactical" style; I don't because there's too much iframes to be abused in the system and fights tends to drag for too much time unless one of the players is too noob) and covenant design.
If that's what you think constitutes good game design, sure as hell hope not. I've played Demon Souls, all Dark Souls games, Bloodborne and none of them kept me interested for more than 30 hour or so. I have several hundred in Elden Ring across PS5 and PC and the open world is of the main reasons why.

I think that cohesive world is superior. But based on how well ER sold idk if they're going back
It's just going to be open world games with anime fights from now on.

Quantity and spectacle over quality.
