I feel guilty for summoning during fight with Malenia

I’ve spent hours upon hours trying to beat her and I’ve gotten my ass clapped constantly. I finally said “f*** it” and called in a mimic tear. Finally I was able to annihilate her on like the 4th try after that. But I don’t feel satisfied or a sense of pride knowing I summoned a second me to take her down. It was like I gave in and cheated my way to victory. It was my first time I used a summon on a boss fight. Maybe in NG+ I’ll try and solo her again.

I think your thinking is not correct. FromSoftware designed the game to be played with Torrent and Spirit Ashes and all the nifty Talismans, Buffs, and Consumables. NO ONE should feel less for using them.

Don't let others play style take away your pleasure in the game. You paid for it, enjoy it the way you want to. :)

Sounds like Black Knife Tiche would be great for this fight as her method of staying alive is to not get hit at all. That's what I am going to try this time through. :)

The issue is that you thought using summons is wrong to begin with. But ironwu already expressed this perfectly :)

Well people are different.

The first time i ussed a summon was in Dark Souls 1 on the Twin Gargoyles on the roof
Everyone did say Dark Souls 1 was the pinnacle of difficulty in computer gaming and so i was very afraid and summoned NPC Solaire.

God was it a rofl stomp
I defated them 1st try with 0 effort and it felt dumb....

So i didnt use a summon again till Pontieff in Dark Souls 3
again same concept.
Everyone said Pontieff was the pinnacle of difficulty in computer gaming.
So i summoned Gotthard.

Unfortunately same result
1st try , super easy rofl stomp.
Again it just felt stupid.

thats why i rarely used any summons in the next years.
Only for testing or for meme fights

unless you are super super bad.... you and a summon will easily outdamage the healing by a lot !....
if she attacks your summon you can attack her.
your damage > her healing
so overall even when she hits summon a lot your dps ist higher than solo
since you can attack a lot more and you will stance break more with summon

Well I killed her solo so obviously im not "super super bad". If you're using lighter weapons those self heals add a lot of extra hits you have to get in, but whatever.

put summon sign at the entrance
enjoy rematch /w no mimic tear

Actually, I found Banished Knight Engval to be seriously bugged.

* He really does not move to engage the Boss very quickly

* He does not maintain real pressure on the Boss

* In a two-stage transformation fight, after the first form is gone, Engval thinks the fight is over while the second form will kick the crap out of the player.

That happened to me when I fought Maliketh. Switched over to Oleg and that fight went super easy. Did a bit of research and immediately switched over to Black Knife Tiche. She is a real S-Tier fighter. :)

So i cant see a scenario where this is more difficult unless you dont attack enough
which is a skill issue

if you attack the same low amount solo and with summon it will be bad.
but with summon you can attack like 50-100% more
so you outdamage her healing easily
with many summons you can just perma stagger spam her to death

Forget summoning being cheap, it is dodge rolling that is OP. Press a button and you are instantly invincible? Talk about over powered.

If you beat the game using dodge rolls, you did not really beat the game.

Your damage isn't necessarily higher than her healing with lighter weapons if the summon gets stuck in a corner and battered, and it extends the length of the fight increasing possibility of mistakes. But like I said I killed her solo, so keep your "skill issue" pointless hostility to yourself.
