What is the plot for the SOTE?
So... the whole story in main is about taking the power by tarnished, who wants to become Elden Lord or just simping to blue girl. Kinda bland, but it actually exists.

But i can't find any motivation for the tarnished to commit genocide in shadow lanes. What is the plot of the DLC? Why we following Miquella and killing everyone on our journey? Sriously, I don't get it.

Here some options for you:

1) Cause tarnished is bloodthirsty murderhobo who burns maiden(s), the world and on occasion also themselves. There are more things to burn. Even the giants things that already burn you can knock down and also burn...

2) The girlyman stole tanished's trophy. They should not have touched others kills.

3) There is another weird blue chick, need to collect them all.

I like how ppl keep joking about this but it really just betrays how simple they are.

The story is so basic and shallow, you really can't miss it.

If you acknowledged the basic ass plot of the base game, it doesn't take a genius to figure out why it might be worth stopping someone, who, if they succeed, will mess up with your plans in the base game.

Jesus Christ. This ain't Shakespeare.

If Miquella not dead = Miquella take throne, Tarnished want throne therefore no throne for Miquella and for no throne for Miquella Miquella has to dead

Only one of 3 endings support such threat though, in the other 2 it is too late and there is no throne to take.

1. This what i actually feel while playing. Realistic for player's perspective, but does not make any sense inside game's world.

2. Why tarnished should care? He/she still has great rune and cool armor set. And Miquella can bang any gut who he wants.

3. Another one? I dropped DLC, so i don't really know. Is she worth it?

It is too late for Miquella in the Frenzy ending but in the Ranni ending he can still wreak havoc and possibly take over the Lands Between, ruining Ranni's whole plan of "Everyone gets to do whatever" because then everyone will have to do what Miquella says.

1) This is a gameplay-driven title, player perspective means a lot;)

2) Depends on the character (which is not a set thing for the MC), for some it is not a big deal, others will show the girlyman that he is not to approach their stuff whether they need it or not.

3) She has a fun battle on the way to her, plus she is of a unique variety, arguably a good addition to the collection of 4-hand doll chick appreciators.

Very speculative, Ranni arguably destroys what's left of the golden order making Miquella lose all his powers all together since there is no longer the cosmic order power to support him. And her own order is something different she relocates far away, so no do not think Miquella can do much about it after that ending.

the problem for the player is: all of this happens (if happens) off screen.

Miquella's powers - at least the ones he has in God Form - have nothing to do with the Golden Order or the Greater Will, they are either related to a god we don't know about (in which case I guess he does lose all his power if the "japanese version of the text saying that Ranni removes all godly influences" thing is true) or it comes from his own innate arcane powers (in which case Ranni can do nothing about it). And while yes her order consists of her and her husband going on a permanent/nigh-permanent cosmic horror honeymoon while everyone else is left to do whatever Miquella is still a potential threat if he ascends to Godhood and manages to establish his own order because he could idk barge in to the place where Ranni and the tarnished are making out and like do something bad there I honestly have no idea anymore.

TL;DR Miquella is need of being killed in the Ranni ending because... BECAUSE HE JUST IS, OKAY????? (<--- I say this and look like this)

You are now the Elden Lord you are there to protect your position. Can't allow Miquella to usurp things by becoming a God and displace you from the throne with another champion of his choice.

The game does not consistently explain the physics of that powers, that is why I said in the previous reply - it is just speculation.

It appears there are multiple comic powers in play that set up their influence at the lands between (and the lands around I would guess), of which is it difficult to say where powers like Miquella's or Ranni's really come from. None of them (the characters lords, demigods and "gods" like Marika) however really seem to be the source of their own power, so there is that.

Miquella's power closely resembles the golden order one, so with its fall it is reasonable to assume it would be gone, but it is of course a speculation.

nothing in the DLC recognizes me as elden lord. Instead, i'm doing mail quests like "bring this pot to some NPC "

Leda makes the misguided assumption you are part of their group, and all the other NPCs believe her and accept you as their own. At one point, she actually does acknowledge you were never under Miquella's spell, which she found "strange" (the psychopath already figuring out her next victim: you). This means she really had no clue who you were when you showed up.

The vast majority of the lore in the DLC concerns the origins of Marika, how she came to be and all the rest with the Hornsent, the crusade etc, which as the Elden Lord should concern you quite a bit as well. So you came to investigate Miquella since he is a threat to the order you have created as the Elden Lord, but now you are also sticking around to find out the truth about all you believed previously in your ascension to the throne.

That's my head canon and i'm sticking to it.

the dlc happens before you become elden lord, destroy the golden order or the world. you're just continuing the hunt for demigods and their great runes by going after miquella.
