This is how you do it. I'm not a fan of ng+ either. So just get a mule.
Like when I finally did a faith character in ds3. There was no way I was gonna rush to ashes of ariandel just to get the boss weapo.
I think FromSoft should support an official way to enjoy more of the game's equipment earlier. Like, maybe some kind of system such that if any one of your characters finds any equipment, you have the option to start a new character using that as your starting equipment - basically being able to completely customize your armor and weapons based on what you discovered in the game.
It has also annoyed me how hard it is to dual wield certain weapons. Like, how is it that there is only a single example of a Long Sword in the entire lands between? It's not even possible to dual wield two of the same twinblade in a single play-through unless you get someone to drop you a weapon. Artificial limitations like this around weapons just mean people are funneled into cookie cutter builds.
